Copyrights anyone?

During a wedding, friend/choir member had mentioned The Philippine Daily Inquirer publishing an article with dubious facts. I checked out the website, but didn’t find a match… so I Googled it.

Check this Google-cached article (which my sister confirmed to be the contents of what was in yesterday’s paper) Take note of the part that says:

PPF eventually branched out into the realm of musical plays and concerts. In 1990, PPF waxed its first album, “Ama Namin,” under Ivory. Interestingly, PPF was the first to sing “Tanging Yaman” during mass service and weddings even before it became the theme song for the hit movie.

Gee!, and I thought we were the one’s who owned the song… Fr. Manoling has a lot of explaining to do! hehehehehe

Jokes aside, they should’ve phrased that bit of info along the lines of: “They have been singing the song Tanging Yaman even before it became the theme song…” That would be correct – and incidentally, would apply to any choir who had sung the song before the movie came out.

The Tanging Yaman album was released 1989, The song Tanging Yaman, was composed by Fr. Manoling while in the novitiate in 1986. Now unless we haven’t been informed of such an arrangement with the PPF, we’d be inclined to believe that Fr. Manoling’s choir would get to be the first to sing his compositions.

It’s all good fun though, we BP don’t intend to make a big deal of it – that’s why I’m not posting this in the Ministry’s official site. It’s just an interesting bit of trivia – you know us net-freaks… always keeping an eye out for some fun!

Of recent(ly acquired) albums

For the past few weeks, I’ve been collecting albums… must’ve acquired about 60+ as of now. They range from all sorts of genre (e.g. Cafe del Mar to Nirvana to Jars of Clay – to Nine Inch Nails to India Arie, you get the picture. Old and new, whatever was available.

I haven’t gotten to a third of them, but I thought I’d share the select songs to look for from the albums I did get to listen to. I wasn’t able to get the full discographies (translated: all the albums) of most of the artists, so there may be different versions of some songs (or even the same) which I don’t know about.

I’m basing this list of “cool tracks” on the albums I have… If you see the albums, then try these songs for size:

For the love of Music

I noticed that every post I make recently is either about technology or stuff related to the internet. What about my other categories? Exactly!

So in the interest of posting on a different categories and utilize those category icons I’ve prepared in the past, I will post something in the “music” section.

Anyways, my friend is submitting a demo tape (song) for some singing group – and has asked me to do the vocal track for it. Happened a while ago and it was quite an experience.

I dare not post more “incriminating” information; considering the people that may read this, baka magka-bukuhan, which is the last thing I want to happen. It ain’t my song to begin with, so I don’t want to be the one spoiling anything (if there’s anything to spoil, that is).

We recorded in the studio of our group’s usual sound engineer. I had fun not only recording, but actually watching him do the whole “sound engineering/production procedure.” I do my own sound production/engineering for my songs, and watching someone with years of experience was really a treat. I got to ask a ton of questions with regards to the technical aspects of recording/mixing/mastering – I really enjoyed every minute of it.

More gadgets

There’s a storm coming, and all my other working friends were going home left and right. I had to buy something – so I took a chance and went to Megamall regardless of the possible traffic (and the fact that the mall may itself, close)

Luckily, there was no traffic, and the mall was operating like any other day.

Of last Sunday

Sunday was a loaded day. We kicked off with a mass in UP, wherein there was an interesting homily about some rich person who now dedicates his life to helping the less fortunate. It’s interesting because later that night, I actually met his wife! hahaha.

Afternoon was spent practicing for the Christmas concert… so nothing to talk about there save for that fact that it was tiring

Later that night was Juan’s birthday dinner. I thought it was a small dinner followed by a team meeting… little did I know that he actually threw a party at the roofdeck of their condominium.
