On music…

I know this rant is out of the blue (publicly speaking of course), but I just had nothing better to do hehehe.

I’ve always had to debate with myself the proper way to “interpret” music for performance/recording. While I understand the need to be in a “comfort-zone” because of time constraints (and oftentimes simple narrow-mindedness), I can’t help but be frustrated with how some people deal with their “music.” – especially if its something I’m a part of.

Sometimes you want to contribute your ideas, but know beyond a doubt (in fact it was already proven once or twice) that they are too “aged” to listen to your input… I guess the saying “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks” (unless the dog is a “hip” and “updated” fellow)

I would just want to set my mind at ease – by claiming that I definitely can make things better… if allowed to. And all my friends who really know me [musically] had constantly been on my case saying “why don’t you exert yourself?,” or “you’re right… why don’t you speak up?”

While I do appreciate their sentiments and support, I just can’t because I’m not the type who’d “force the issue.” For something to work, everyone must agree with it. If I do something better, but people don’t appreciate the methods I used to achieve them (if it gets political for example) – I consider that a waste of time. What’s important for me is growth for everyone… not a chance to be condescending and say “I told you so!”

If my help is not asked for (‘cuz I remember offering it already ages ago), then I simply won’t go out of my way to give it to the unappreciative.

A friend of mine who’s definitely has influence in the music whole scene (or at least cannot be denied that he knows what he’s talking about) share my sentiments. Which is great since I never studied music – so I never knew if it was just a personal thing in my part or a real valid argument.

Constantine is gone

Constantine isn’t the best singer, but come on, anyone can see that he’s the most well-rounded performer out of all the contestants.

Simon, although brutal with his comments, has never missed the mark with his assessments. I believe that despite how he disagrees with Constantine’s “rocker” style, I don’t think he ever suggested that Constantine didn’t belong in that competition – and he’s absolutely correct.

But then again, the people decide ultimately… and it’s the same people that voted for Bush hehehe so I guess I can’t really say it is unexpected.

I just hope that fatass and/or stupid white kid are next. They deserve to be eliminated – not Constantine, not Anwar, and other performers before them.

I hope people stop voting based on popularity – but overall skill, character, and charisma. Not just because the prick grew up on the same country/state/town/block you’re in.

Damien Rice

Just to break free from the “pilgrimage posts,” I’d like to share some musical discoveries I’ve experienced thanks to Paolo, who is part of our pilgrimage group. His iPod was loaded with a ton of varying genre’s so I couldn’t help but copy its contents to my laptop.

One artist that caught my ear was Damien Rice, which is already been in the scene a long time ago, but in any case: I just heard him now. He has the aura of a Jeff Buckley, only that his songs are much, much sadder.

Here’s a nice last chorus from his song Cannonball

Stones taught me to fly Love, taught me to lie Life taught me to die So it’s not hard to fall When you float like a cannon..

Stones taught me to fly Love taught me to cry so come on courage Teach me to be shy ‘Cause it’s not hard to fall And I don’t wanna scare her It’s not hard to fall And I don’t wanna lose (-) It’s not hard to grow When you know that you just don’t know.

Hit the nail right in the head. – how very true indeed.

iPod photo

Ipod Photo

I finally got my iPod photo a while ago. Initial transfer was a pain even if it was via FireWire.

Some new stuff (aside from photo support of course) that wasn’t present in my 4th-gen. The colored screen is great. It’s like the first time I switched to color with the Nokia phones: at first you don’t think its a big deal, and continue to do so… until you start using a B/W again.

The package was pretty good as it had lots of stuff:

  • Charge/sync dock
  • AC charger
  • FireWire cable
  • USB cable
  • Belt case
  • Case for the belt case (well at least that’s what I call it)
  • iPod sock
  • Video cable
  • Earphones, software CD, etc. Read More

External audio for everyone

GM adds line-in jack to their cars via Engadget

GM line-in with the iPod
…See guys, that wasn’t so hard, was it?

I hope the rest of the automobile industry would follow suit so we can finally phase out those tape-adaptors, FM-transmitters, or spending quite a penny on modifying our audio setup just to accomodate external audio devices (iPods, etc.).

A line-in jack is pretty much standard to all audio devices, and now that I’ve read that bit of news, I’m wondering why people (including myself) never noticed that glaring flaw in automobile audio. You pay premiums to modify your car setup, or buy a BMW with iPOD support when a simple audio line-in could’ve solved that problem… and would not be limited to special audio gadgets such as the iPODs.

As the article said: it’s about friggin’ time!
