Back on track?

Got my replacement 200GB drive 4 days ago. The people from the shop were kind enough to give me one of their sale units instead of having to wait for the actual replacement from the manufacturer/distributor. Actually this shouldn’t have been an issue in the first place as far as warranties are concerned… but since this is the Philippines, I’m glad there wasn’t any red-tape involved 😉

Peecee power!

I was happily computing 2 nights ago, when my “table” collapsed. You see, I have this small adjustable table which is right in the middle of my main PC (windows) and bed. That’s where I usually place my laptop and incidentally, my 200GB external drive (which contains my music, work, ebooks, and incomplete anime).

For some reason, the support suddenly gave way, which sent the top part crashing down, along with the stuff on it. Luckily, my Powerbook was on the bed at the time, but my hard drive wasn’t as lucky.

Some music reviews

I was able to do some album devouring for the past two days (usually right before I sleep). So I got to scratch out a bunch of albums off my “unlistened songs” list. The albums were Rob Thomas’ new Something to Be, Nickelback’s four albums (The State, Silver Side Up, Curb, and The Long Road) and finally, a taste of a band named Meshuggah.

And just as I thought my un-listened list was going down… I just had to add a TON of new albums like the almost complete discography of Queen (which, in itself was already 19 albums) to name a few.

ASAP

I just have to post this while it’s still fresh. I was in my sis’ room fiddling with the dogs, when ASAP showed Toni (spelling?) Gonzaga, the Coke Girl, and this other artist (model?)

Toni is pretty good! Doing a Mariah Carey and actually delivering the goods!

That Coke Girl however sucked. This is exactly why I don’t take voice-timbre that seriously, because there are people who sound really good, but are too limited in their style. Suffice to say that the Coke Girl should really stick to singing sweet songs. No belting, no R&B, nothing else.

The Filipino’s are generally a music-inclined people. Most Filipino’s know good music when they hear it – regardless if they themselves are good or not. Which is why there are soooooo many people you will come across with the “killer” voice – it’s simply a natural standard we probably develop as a people. So there’s bound to be at least one great sounding person in your life – be it a friend, a family member, a choirmate, etc.

In fact, there are too many nice sounding voices out there that it can get quite dull listening to the same “ballady” voice everywhere in all artists (with exceptions of course). I guess It’s a cultural thing to prefer such a sound, and it’s getting really old, really quick… or maybe it’s just me listening to too much diverse music.

Where’s the slow motion button?

I noticed that I’ve been “acquiring” more music that I can actually ingest. I’ve now had to create a special playlist in iTunes just to dump all the albums I haven’t gotten the chance to go through. I haven’t sorted everything yet, but as of now there are like 3000+ worth of songs in that playlist alone.

You see, my “method,” when it comes to iTunes and my iPod, is that I only leave the “nice” songs (according to my taste of course). This is so I can conserve space since my collection is merrily on its way approaching the 60GB mark (and my iPod is 60GB, so you see my dilemma). Of course I want to use the iPod for something other than music since it’s a very handy mass-data-storage device.

To do this, of course, I have to know which songs are worth leaving in the iPod. What I do is listen to songs by albums. Yes, I purposely go through entire albums even if the first impressions suck.

I think this is a very healthy thing musically. As human beings, we all have opinions and preferences. I’ve always wanted to do away with my “musical preference” and just enjoy music as such… any kind of music. This means taking a particular piece in its context, understand it, and appreciate it.
