La Mesa Ecopark

Cris and I usually make Sundays “biking day” – and last Sunday, we decided to mix it up a bit, packed some food, then went to La Mesa Ecopark first thing in the morning. Hoping that the Pac-Man/Hitman fight would mean less people – we were wrong.

As usual, some GoogleMap chronicling available here, gallery pictures here

The plan was to have Cris try out a “trail” and experience what it feels like biking over uneven/rocky grounds/inclines, etc. Then we go around a bit, see what the park has to offer, then have a picnic with our packed food.

Just like a family picnic – without the kids hahahaha.

Cris had to bail out early as she felt her current level of biking wasn’t enough to tackle a trail safely/confidently. The trail was mostly rocks, not soil. And from the “starting point,” it’s basically all uphill – so I could see that it may be too much for her at least for now. Next time perhaps 🙂

I tried doing a quick run of the Butterfly Trail it to check it out while she waited in the Petron Fitness Trail. 1 Which isn’t really a “bike trail,” but more of a stripped down bootcamp style exercise field I actually decided at one point to just go back without checking if I had indeed reached the end because 1) I was alone 2) it was a pretty high place with lots of rocks and 3) and I was using cleated shoes.

I literally didn’t want to take the chance of falling alone in that place or worse; falling down the slope – to uncharted territory without anyone to help me. Safety always comes first.

I also didn’t want to keep Cris waiting, and I felt I was already taking too long exploring the relatively short trail (maybe because it was all uphill and the path was new to me)

So we mostly dicked around the Fitness Trail; trying out the “facilities” – and biked around the rough parts, so she was still able to get a taste of some “trail” in a sense.

Change of Plans

We decided to load/lock our bikes on the car and go back to check out La Mesa dam, and finally eat. But after the dam, the people were already so many that having a picnic there wasn’t that appealing to me anymore.

We decided to leave for UP and bike some more, and look for a place to picnic (after all, it was easier to find spots there). We arrived in UP just as Manny’s fight was starting. Did some rounds in the oval 2 which was eerily “empty” – maybe everyone was at the theater watching the fight. before going to the lagoon and proceeded to LAMON.

We then biked a bit more, then called it a [productive] day.
