Now for some lovin’

I guess I’m having too much fun keeping the “apple fever” in check. People might start thinking I’m a PC fanboy. So let me post about my good Apple experience.

In case you didn’t know I do own a Powerbook… one that conked out on me just recently. I had recovered the files I needed and sent the unit in for repairs.

I guess I could say that I’ve made the most out of my warranty already. I’m even lucky that I was one of the people who got a three year warranty without having to purchase Applecare. 1 This was during the time where a lot of distributors offered 3 years warranty as a standard.

It has been two years already and the amount of replacement parts I have already availed of (including this incident) has already reached 1k USD. So as far as warranties go, I’ve more than made the most out of it. And it’s pleasing to know that I still have a whole year left – in case of any complications.

This is not to say that it was a lousy machine that I had to have it serviced often. I already had the entire bottom and top case 2 The top case is where the keyboard is. Not the LCD panel casing. replaced with a brand new one because of a slip-up a techincian did when upgrading the hard disk, and I ended up having a “bruised” powerbook. I had the top case replaced once more after discoloration due to the lousy material of the top-casing. In a sense, both were mostly cosmetic, but still applicable for warranty because it wasn’t my doing.

This recent incident however is a true hardware issue, which is being promptly dealt with. What makes me happy about this event is that I officially reported a problem with the hard disk; but after testing, they said that they were having the LCD replaced as well.

I guess I never noticed how much mine has dimmed because I used a software that magically re-envigorated it by some magical process which escapes me. All I can say is that it probably recovers the brightness/contrast that’s lost by overcompensating the hardware settings. So the fact that my LCD was in an awful condition totally slipped my mind – until they reminded me about it. I’m still quite confused because I always knew that LCDs dim with age, and I never thought that was applicable in a warranty situation – but it’s still nice to know that they volunteered to fix it.

All of this was revealed about the same day I got the new monitors for my desktop – which was a couple of days after my birthday. As Juan had told me: when it rains it pours. It poured bad luck during my birthday, but also poured back a whole lot of good mojo the days after.

I’m excited to get my Apple back, and see my room literally filled with brightly lit LCDs hahaha.
