Attack of the games

The games coming out nowadays are really fun. Almost all sequels. And through they love to concentrate on bleeding your videocards, it’s nice to know that they are still somewhat particular about their storylines.

In a few moments, I would have finished downloading Prince of Persia – Warrior Within, and put Vampire the Masquerade – Bloodlines on the queue.

Half-Life 2

Before we get into those two, I’d like to talk about Half-Life 2 for a sec, since I’ve never posted anything about it since I’ve played it.

Fantastic game, deserving of all the rave it was generating – moreso than Doom3 IMHO. The story was fantastic, but I still liked the first one better. Nonetheless, first-versions always have the edge of introducing a world… which makes it somewhat unfair to expect sequels to top them. I mean think about it, sequels almost always are subsets of whatever story has been already introduced.

But that doesn’t mean that there are no exceptions. Prince of Persia – Sands of Time is a perfect example of a sequel that blows the first story out of the water. Speaking of which – it must’ve slipped my mind for me not to include that in my top list of storylines

Anyways, as a sequel – Half-Life 2 is sure to please the fans.

The Warrior Within

Now we come to this, for those who have played Prince of Persia since its infancy (in 2d mode) will come to appreciate what great lengths the developers have… er… developed this game into. The Sands of Time was awesome to say the least. Gameplay, story, twists, etc. – they were all in there.

A quick summary of the Sands of Time will reveal that some bad guy wanted to rule the kingdom and have absolute power… and unwittingly makes the Prince (you) do the dirty work for him. And after he has acquired the said power, it is now your duty to undo what he/you has/have done.

Something like that. But the cool part of it of course is the time element – it’s always great to have time be an integral part of a storyline, and that’s what Sands of Time accomplishes.

Now we have Warrior Within – which continues that story (or at least that’s what I think based on the trailer). According to the trailer, you releasing (and using) the Sands of Time (from the previous game) had some consequences (just had that coming hehehe). From what I gather, you were supposed to have died – and you “escaped” your fate by that abnormality you have caused in the previous game.

Now there is a being after you – which is out to “correct” that mistake.

Pretty spooky stuff hehehehe. Anyways, no need to go into details – thats why I’m going to play the damn thing to see what it’s all about. But I’m loving it already.

Check out the trailer on the official site – it won best game trailer of the year or something, and its really good!

Bloodlines

Now this is exciting and also frightening. One of my favorite storylines of all time has released a sequel! Vampire the Masquerade – Bloodlines

Due to the reasons I mentioned regarding “first versions,” I am rather concerned if they can at least maintain the impact of the second game. I mean the first game showed how and why you became a vampire. How and why you fought your nemesis throughout the centuries… how can you top something like that!?

Nonetheless, I’m getting it too to see what happens.

Other sequels

Also coming in march is Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell – Chaos Theory and a whole bunch of other titles I bet, but for the next few days, I’m set with the two I just mentioned.

Have a say
