Ready for Inking

So I’ve been putting off getting a tattoo for the longest time. As usual, the reason being I can’t think of a design that would be worthy of being my “first”… not to mention the fact that it’ll be permanent 1 Of course you could have it removed but still…

I figured that the safest, most sensible design would be related to my identity (since that will never change) and not just some metaphorical representation (at least for now). So I decided that my first tattoo would, naturally, be my name, birthday, or both… and what better way to present it than as an ambigram.

An ambigram, also sometimes known as an inversion, is a graphical figure that spells out a word not only in its form as presented, but also in another direction or orientation.

The offshoot of doing an ambigram is that the collection of glyphs produced end up naturally looking like symbols or patterns… and symbols/patterns are a natural fit for tattooing… at least that’s what I feel. Read More

Food Tripping

Ok, before everything else, I’d just like to put it out there that I’m not a fan of Chinese cuisine. That is to say it’s not something I’d ever imagine myself craving for. As far as my food preferences goes, it’d be [Filipino] native, then Japanese, then European 1 Italian, etc., then Western … and lastly would be the “Oriental” 2 Vietnamese, Chinese, etc. variety.

But for some reason, I was feeling adventurous this weekend – and I was intrigued by all this Chinese/Taiwanese hullabaloo surrounding the “new-ish” restos being mentioned by friends and in blogs. Read More

Southern Getaway

Two things happened during the weekend, one was the Saturday trail ride, 1 Which was my first for the new year the other one was a spontaneous road-trip with Cris to Tagaytay the next day.

MiFi initial experience

In yesterday’s post, I only touched on physical impressions I had on my E583C. Because of my excitement (understandably so), I wasn’t able to hold off the post till I actually got to put the thing through its paces. Instead, I just ended it with a cop-out statement:

The only thing to really evaluate with gadgets like these is how powerful/reliable their antennae and WiFi beacons are. So I’ll be using this unit quite a bit and compare it to how my broadband account would perform when stuck directly into the iPad.

But assuming the thing actually does what its advertised to do, even if it doesn’t do it spectacularly, I really can’t find any reason why it wouldn’t be a worthwhile investment for anyone who wants connectivity on the go.

The logic of the statement is obviously sound, but in this post, I’ll confirm what we’ve all been wondering: Will it blend?

Just kidding, I meant “how does it perform?” Read More

Industrial Grade

I’ve been neglecting my blog for quite a while now. Super busy with work, and all that jazz.

But I guess the highlight of me being incommunicado would be my forced “revamping” of my room/work area.

It all started when my airconditioner (a/c) of 48 years 1 In truth, I’ve had it since grade-school finally died. Since I didn’t really want to have to think too much about what new one I should get, I asked my brother in law about it. 2 since their family business is installing air conditioners on an industrial/enterprise scale I simply asked what was best for my room assuming 24/7 operation and energy efficiency.
