Degradation of life?

There was one thing that irked me in the House’s dialogs in each episode. Well it’s really more unsettling than it is irksome. It’s the use of the word nauseous to mean nauseated.

She’s feeling nauseous.

No she’s not, unless she feels that she’s so ugly that she’s downright disgusting (not disgustED) that other people are nauseated by her being nauseous. (or maybe just because she just smells like puke and feces) Get my drift?

Now I do realize that probably by this generation, the word has already evolved to mean the same thing, and is commonly accepted as an alternative to the correct usage. I think it’s sad though that one has to degrade the quality of different aspects in life simply because they become “commonplace.”

That mentality is the very same reason why values/morals/etc. continue to degrade.

But who am I to talk? After all, I always tend to forget putting an H when I spell “whether.”

Going back to the degradation of the quality of daily life in general. I also usually find myself with conflicting opinions regarding the matter.

Examples of which are:

  • I do not trust the government, I believe that the country and its government is in the shitter, but I also think its better to have this government if only to keep everything from turning into total chaos.
  • I like democracy, but I don’t think it’s appropriate for this country.
  • I tend to have beef about religion(s) in general, but I would definitely want my children to be raised with it, if only to buy more time – before they the inevitability start corrupting their bodies on their own prerogative.
  • I do not approve of violence and abuse, but I do approve that physical punishment on children (e.g. spanking) may sometimes be necessary. You’ll be lucky if you have the type of kid who listens to reason… but there will be a handful (just like me) who simply need to be disciplined forcefully.

As you can see, if we simply respected the general progression “cultural changes,” then the trend is simply this: people ultimately want the least interference with their [selfish] interests. That’s why the more developed nations 1 Those who can afford to act on those social desires. protect these people to the point of pampering them too much. Among others, some of the more noticeable implications are:

  • Now people can sue restaurants for making them fat.
  • Children [clever enough] can get away with almost anything because of the absence of “convincing punishment.” 2 Try spanking an american child, and see if your own child doesn’t report you for child abuse.
  • Schools have the “No one’s left behind” policy 3 No one’s left behind, sure because EVERYONE ends up behind. Oh and lets not even talk about mainstreaming. (yes, I actually consider that as a bad thing).
  • The age bracket engaging in irresponsible sexual behavior, is getting younger by the minute.
  • The sanctity of marriage and other “reasonable” religious beliefs have been severely compromised over time.

Now for those who know me, you know that I wouldn’t even dare put the last two without qualifying them. I have no problem with having sex at a young age, and I myself am pro-choice. But I’ll be damned if I condone abortion simply because you wanted to have sex without protection and didn’t want to get knocked up. I have no problems with divorce, I do have a problem with however, if done too often – if people get married left and right because they know they could get a divorce if things go south.

The difference here is that I fully understood 4 And probably continuing to learn/understand these nuances at a certain age, an age clearly beyond my teens. So while I may disagree with a lot of “religious policies” by principle, I still want them instilled on my kids at an early age. Because guess what, they’ll eventually realize (just like me) how full of shit those “policies” are. Since they’re going to find out sooner or later, might as well make sure they don’t find out at an age where they are incapable of dealing with them responsibly

While “poorer” nations live in a world of extremely unfavorable circumstances, those same circumstances force them to transcend their situation and make the best out of it; and you’ll find out that when anyone does that, you’d be surprised with the results you can come up with.

I have just broadened the topic big time, let’s bring it back to the issue. Going back to language; If we spent the time to actually enforce the correct usage of the language instead of having it acquiesce to cultural evolution, then maybe people wouldn’t be this stupid today. Same goes with all “cultural changes.”
