Ready for Inking

So I’ve been putting off getting a tattoo for the longest time. As usual, the reason being I can’t think of a design that would be worthy of being my “first”… not to mention the fact that it’ll be permanent 1 Of course you could have it removed but still…

I figured that the safest, most sensible design would be related to my identity (since that will never change) and not just some metaphorical representation (at least for now). So I decided that my first tattoo would, naturally, be my name, birthday, or both… and what better way to present it than as an ambigram.

An ambigram, also sometimes known as an inversion, is a graphical figure that spells out a word not only in its form as presented, but also in another direction or orientation.

The offshoot of doing an ambigram is that the collection of glyphs produced end up naturally looking like symbols or patterns… and symbols/patterns are a natural fit for tattooing… at least that’s what I feel. Read More

On the whole CBCP announcement regarding the RH bill and communion

So there’s this “announcement” making the rounds with the gist being this.

…we would like to advise parishioners who promote or support the RH Bill NOT (repeat NOT) to receive Holy Communion until they go to Sacramental Confession and renounce the RH Bill.

I was just supposed to comment on it in FB, but for some reason I couldn’t post a comment to my friends that are posting this, nor can I comment on my own re-post (and I have to deal with the damned character limit of FB) so I thought I’d just blog about it. Read More

Closer to the Edge

A quickie recording – didn’t really spend much time mixing it properly. Partly because the backing track I filched from the net sucked, so I kinda lost the motivation along the way hehehe.

The reason I tried it though was for three things:

  1. I wanted to see if the [Shure] Beta58 could be used for my vocal recordings. While it’s an inferior mic compared to the AKGs I’m using, it does have a great polar pattern to block out the noise that comes from the road beside my room which would mean less EQing/noise-gating to get the sound I need… assuming, of course, I could even do it.

  2. A couple of the plugins I use particularly for my vocal tracks have been discontinued, and are now incompatible with the 64bit Windows 7 environment I’m running Sonar on. So I’m trying some plugins that come stock with Sonar in the hopes to get a sound I like… and hopefully future-proof my vocal workflow while I’m at it.

  3. I wanted to see if I can actually sing a 30 Seconds to Mars song. I love the band, and idolize their vocalist – I wish I could even sing 1/8 as good as Mr. Leto. Read More

RIM vs Apple

That’s right, shit just got real – I’m going to give my thoughts on the whole iPhone vs. BlackBerry (BB) debate

Main reason is because I’m stuck at home right now on a friday night with nothing else to do. So might as well talk about tech like I usually do.

Next is that this particular topic, surprisingly, has been a recurring one. As you know, people usually ask my opinion when they plan to make “tech purchases” – and phones are no exception. Naturally, when it comes to Smartphones there are three choices: RIM, Apple or Google.

I’m not including Google (Android) in this debate because the type of people who consider getting Android devices are of a different social subset – they aren’t your normal consumers – in the same way same way that there are people who prefer to use Linux or any open source OS over anything more “commercial.”

In any case, I can totally engage in that debate if you really want me to, but for now, let’s stick with RIM’s BB and Apple’s iOS as the contenders – because these are the Smartphones that are getting most of the traction from the “regular joes.” Read More

Food Tripping

Ok, before everything else, I’d just like to put it out there that I’m not a fan of Chinese cuisine. That is to say it’s not something I’d ever imagine myself craving for. As far as my food preferences goes, it’d be [Filipino] native, then Japanese, then European 1 Italian, etc., then Western … and lastly would be the “Oriental” 2 Vietnamese, Chinese, etc. variety.

But for some reason, I was feeling adventurous this weekend – and I was intrigued by all this Chinese/Taiwanese hullabaloo surrounding the “new-ish” restos being mentioned by friends and in blogs. Read More
