Custom iPhone Icons

NOTICE:

Icons last updated at 06.03.2010

For those who noticed my iPhone; I’ve been a fan of giZ’s Smoog theme forever now.

Very subtle and elegant IMHO. The only drawback is given how often I install new applications, that uniformity is easily broken… and it’s not like the author has time to make new icons for every application out there.

Which is why I ended up making my own, which I would like to share in case anyone finds them useful. Read More

Beware Apple routers running on PLDT DSL

Did that get your attention? Sorry to make it sound urgent, but the fact is, I’m not sure if it is urgent. But in case it applies to you, then I’ve just done you a big favor.

The thesis of this post is that there is a possibility that the PLDT DSL service, literally damages Apple devices that have gateway (i.e. routing) capabilities.

Background

A few years ago, I threw away my Time Capsule (TC). 1 Of course, after cannibalizing the 1TB drive and assimilating it into the Drobo The reason for which was because its gateway/routing capablities died without any warning. It would always throw an error of not being able to authenticate with PLDT’s PPPoE server. When I try connecting the computer(s) directly to the modem, it/they would work. Hence I was convinced it was the TC’s problem.

That was thennow, I’m not so sure. Read More

Mr. Murphy

So yesterday was an epic fail relatively speaking.

Ok, I’m not so sure if “epic” would be the term to best describe it – since there was nothing really life-changing or earth-shattering. But the sheer number of fails probably puts it at epic proportions 😉 Read More

External Drive fix for OS X SL

I’m aware not everyone has the same setup as I do, so I’m not sure if this is even applicable. But I’ll share it anyway in case people are experiencing the same issue.

So I’ve decided to “upgrade” the Hackintosh 1 My main desktop/work computer to Snow Leopard (SL). I was hesitant to leave Leopard (especially for the work machine) because of this bug I experienced in my MacBook Pro.

Streamlining

Two years ago, I started migrating my data into the “cloud” This is basically because I needed a way to access my more pertinent and volatile data from multiple machines without having to manually trigger a synchronization 1 Not to mention that with my iPhone and iPod Touch, they really just sync with one device they have been paired with

Yes, I’m aware of the “security risks,” but I’ve weighed the security vs. practicality angles – and practicality came out on top given the data I had available.

Anyways, the “services” I had been using before were relatively new(ly developed), and had their share of “drawbacks.”

For example, MobileMe was probably the best solution as it could’ve given exactly what I needed right out of the gate, but it wasn’t worth it’s price tag IMHO 2 When Apple decides to put it to like 30USD annually, then I’ll reconsider

Anyways, I “re-evaluated” my “process” this year and found a bunch of pleasant surprises! Read More
