I WANT THIS DAMNIT!

Frontier Design Group’s AlphaTrack compact DAW surface controller

Assignable motorized fader, touch-sensitive parameter controls, LCD screen, transport controls, touch-sensitive jog/shuttle control… it’s like a swiss army knife for MIDI control/automation.

More info here (Be sure to check the demo page) I hear it’s only about 200USD, if only I wasn’t getting a new laptop, I’d buy this in a heartbeat. I guess it’s racket time!

Oh Apple, we thought we knew ye.

I just have to rant. I know I’ve had beef about Apple with regards to some of the stuff they do/release. And those points are always wonderful sources for futher debate… especially if you start bringing in the whole fanboy culture into the fray. Make no mistake – there are people out there who are so dense, that they still see Apple as this knight in shining armor even if they’re already taking it in the ass.

This time, I just have to say I’m sorely disappointed with what Apple’s doing the past few weeks. For those who didn’t know, they are trying to claim the whole “pod” name for themselves. What does this entail? Any branding that has “pod” in it is now in danger. And as far as I know, they’ve already succeeded and are now closing in on the “podcast” monicker. While this is probably a brilliant move as far as cutthroat business is concerned, I must say my disillusionment is in full effect. I can say without a doubt that Apple has become (or is well on its way to becoming) one of the big bullies in business. An evil empire, which was previously reserved for the likes of Microsoft.

Mine’s better than yours

Cris surprised me the other day with what she would call “my delayed birthday gift.”

This is so awesome! I’ve always preferred “practical” over “sentimental” when it comes to gifts. This by essence is extremely practical, but the back-story involved is very endearing. So I’d say she hit two birds with one stone. I guess it’s because we think the same way – for the amount of money it would take to buy her, say, perfume… she’d probably prefer I used the money on a book instead.

iTunes 7 – looking good!

I finally had the time to upgrade iTunes to version 7, I must say that the improvements in this build are pretty impressive.

The Good

Tasks View

What I particularly like is how they separated the “current performing tasks” into it’s own page rather than having to click and cycle through the main display. This can get very irritating if you’re downloading a lot of podcasts, then are listening to something. Say you want to change the playhead position on that song – you’ll have to cycling though the different tasks until you see the “task” for the current playing song.

Apple has solved that by putting it on a separate page view:

Battery-talk

I was able to get my replacement battery for my powerbook and the replacement battery grip for my 20D today. It all happened at the last-minute. My supplier said the battery was available for pick-up. I thought I should call Canon as well to check if the grip was done as well (since both were in the same area).

Luckily, both were ready. Plus the driver wasn’t doing anything today, which was a godsend. There’s nothng better than not having to think about parking in those parts of Makati.

Also, the bottom case of my powerbook will be replaced as well… I swear, I could start selling this powerbook at a really good price as it practically will be in a refurbished condition. Any takers?
