To buy or not to buy

Nono had a recent post that prompted me [yet again] to qualify my “preferences” in something he asked advice about… namely audio stuff. More specifically, studio reference monitors for his “home studio.”

The universal answer would obviously be: “it depends”

But you know me, regardless of the truth in that statement, I’d still like to try to do the math (figuratively) and try to come up with a real world argument instead of the cop-out “it depends” answers people love to give. Of course I’ll still probably end up saying it depends ether way, but at least I’ll try to make the situation clearer – and hopefully more conducive to make an informed decision on.

RSS timezone problems

Jowi pointed out that my RSS feed would behave strangely with NetNewsWire. All my posts register as being 8 hours into the future. If I posted something at 1pm, it shows up 9-ish on the reader.

I’m using the Atom 2.0 spec and while my time-stamp syntax is correct – the reader doesn’t seem to handle it correctly. This is really irritating because is only evident with my Atom 2.0 RSS feed – the pages in the site itself still display the right local time.

Regarding Mr. Laporte’s push for renaming podcasts

This particular “move” has already been known for a while, but I thought I would comment on it today because I had nothing else better to do. For those who don’t know what I’m talking about

Leo Laporte wants to rebrand podcasts as ‘netcasts’

If you’re a TWiT fan (or a listener of almost any of Leo’s other 200 podcasts), you might have heard in the past couple of weeks that he’s pushing to change the term ‘podcast’ to ‘netcast.’ He’s even gone so far as to start using it in his lingo on the shows (at least on the few of his shows I can keep up with), and is looking to trademark the term. Now before you run off and flame TWiT’s forums, just hear the man out – because I think he has a good idea.

Sonar 6

Just like iTunes 7 introduced significant feature additions compared to the previous version, Cakewalk has rolled out some enhancements to their flagship sequencing sofware that Sonar users would definitely appreciate. If you’re a Sonar user and were always wondering when a good time to upgrade was, I’m telling you that NOW is the time!

And from the features I’ve listed below… I’m now escalating my view of the my previous post, from “I want this” to “It will be mine.” – last time I said that was for the T5… hehehe. It will fucking be mine!

I just hope it would be out by the time were in the US (they say it might be released Jan next year pa)

Google Earth

I’ve been knocking myself out with Google Earth recently. I found the activity of looking for some location from a generally “uncharted” map of the Philippines (it only goes as far as showing major cities) very engaging.

Still, there are some misgivings I have with it. First is the free version doesn’t allow you to draw polygons. I could understand why the Plus and Pro versions give you better network access, which is fair enough. But drawing custom shapes/polygons can be done locally in a machine, I wish they just enable it on the free version as well. Having the ability to input custom shapes to draw area perimeters is very useful especially in the Philippine context – because we have lousy Civil Engineers who make me wish there was some kind of SIM City feature in real life to just obliterate a chunk of area and replace it with properly distributed structures and roads. But I digress. Read More
