FJAX

I guess everyone has heard about AJAX. Well I read an article on Digg about FJAX, which basically is the same thing, but attempts to cut some corners on the code by using Flash’s proven XML handling.

The logic behind it was that AJAX code can easily get bulky if you want to make sure it runs smoothly across different browsers. FJAX “solves” that dilemma [in a sense] by using limiting the JS to only to call on a Flash object and write it’s output on the document (while AJAX relies heavily on the JavaScript to do everything. The whole middle process of pulling, parsing, etc. is done via Flash – with few lines of code that is native ActionScript.

Just for the heck of it

I’ve been opting to stay-in whenever I can while the rest of the group go on their respective “excursions.” I guess I’m lucky that so far, all the houses I’ve been to have WiFi (I’m not surprised, but it is a good bonus nonetheless).

I guess I might as well post since I got nothing better to do.

We’re in Los Angeles right now, and we still got 2 days till our concert… that means I’m staying in for two more days. It isn’t really a big deal since I’m used to it. Plus the fact that I pretty much have been to the places worth visiting here from our last tour. I’ve been able to save quite a lot because of it, so I’m not regretting it one bit.

To give you an idea, a safe amount I usually allot for a trip to the states (exclusive of plane fare) is at least 500USD for pure needs (e.g. transportation, food, etc.). That’s your minimum. Put shopping, theme park hopping, etc. in there, and that budget goes up dramatically.

We’re at the 2nd leg of the tour and I’ve only spent about 63 dollars. 34 of which, I could’ve avoided if I hadn’t let people persuade me to gimmick with them on our first night in NY and gotten a cheaper metro card (I got a 7 day unlimited pass… which I only used about 5 times) I’m making sure these things will never happen again.

In any case, that’s quite an accomplishment… and proof of sheer willpower hahahaha. Read More

Of the past days

Finally had time to blog again. A lot of stuff happened starting a few hours after our November 19 album launch. We went to China the next day to follow Mom and tour Shanghai and Beijing.

Technically, we only toured Beijing since we were in Shanghai for one day (inclusive of actually arriving there) and quite frankly, I wasn’t impressed by the city.

It’s supposed to be one of the modern-est (is there such a word?) city in the country, but for some reason it really wasn’t doing anything for me. Probably because I wanted something to take pictures of – and “historicity” (which is what makes traveling with a camera a fun activity) was sorely lacking in that city.

Beijing on the other hand was wonderful! Pics are at the gallery

Site updates

Wala lang… just so I can get to use naman this category once in a while.

The guestbook script I use both here and in http://www.bukaspalad.com has always been subject to spam commenters ever since I put them up. I usually do a general clean up once week to erase those unwelcome entries. Of course I don’t get to do that all the time so there are days that the guestbooks are flooded with irritating spam entries. A guestbook entry is set to email me – and daily, I see more or less 10 entries that are purely spam on the average.

So a couple of days ago, I took the time and searched the web for an updated version of the script, in the hopes that there has been some spam protection integrated in the new build… no go.

But I was able to find a modified version of the script by someone who put a simple passcode provision to avoid spambots. I’m happy to say that I haven’t received any spam since then.

Obligatory birthday post

This will also be the test-run of the footnote plugin I’ve just installed. I’ve been in contact with the developer via email, and we’re sorting out bugs and sharing notes. He was also gracious enough to give me his Ecto plugin for me to use.

Anyways, today is like any other day (as are all my b-days) difference is we had to get up at 5 past for a 6am mass. What was interesting though was yesterday. Where I had a car accident.
