Regarding Mr. Laporte’s push for renaming podcasts
This particular “move” has already been known for a while, but I thought I would comment on it today because I had nothing else better to do. For those who don’t know what I’m talking about
Leo Laporte wants to rebrand podcasts as ‘netcasts’
If you’re a TWiT fan (or a listener of almost any of Leo’s other 200 podcasts), you might have heard in the past couple of weeks that he’s pushing to change the term ‘podcast’ to ‘netcast.’ He’s even gone so far as to start using it in his lingo on the shows (at least on the few of his shows I can keep up with), and is looking to trademark the term. Now before you run off and flame TWiT’s forums, just hear the man out – because I think he has a good idea.

Google Earth
I’ve been knocking myself out with Google Earth recently. I found the activity of looking for some location from a generally “uncharted” map of the Philippines (it only goes as far as showing major cities) very engaging.
Still, there are some misgivings I have with it. First is the free version doesn’t allow you to draw polygons. I could understand why the Plus and Pro versions give you better network access, which is fair enough. But drawing custom shapes/polygons can be done locally in a machine, I wish they just enable it on the free version as well. Having the ability to input custom shapes to draw area perimeters is very useful especially in the Philippine context – because we have lousy Civil Engineers who make me wish there was some kind of SIM City feature in real life to just obliterate a chunk of area and replace it with properly distributed structures and roads. But I digress. Read More
Oh Apple, we thought we knew ye.
I just have to rant. I know I’ve had beef about Apple with regards to some of the stuff they do/release. And those points are always wonderful sources for futher debate… especially if you start bringing in the whole fanboy culture into the fray. Make no mistake – there are people out there who are so dense, that they still see Apple as this knight in shining armor even if they’re already taking it in the ass.
This time, I just have to say I’m sorely disappointed with what Apple’s doing the past few weeks. For those who didn’t know, they are trying to claim the whole “pod” name for themselves. What does this entail? Any branding that has “pod” in it is now in danger. And as far as I know, they’ve already succeeded and are now closing in on the “podcast” monicker. While this is probably a brilliant move as far as cutthroat business is concerned, I must say my disillusionment is in full effect. I can say without a doubt that Apple has become (or is well on its way to becoming) one of the big bullies in business. An evil empire, which was previously reserved for the likes of Microsoft.
Torn
Katz sent us an email with a YouTube link. I found it particularly funny because we have a member in BP who left an impression on the group by doing something similar during the US tour. His impression was the song “Get Here (If You Can)” as originally sung by Oleta Adams if I’m not mistaken.
My favorite was the “There’s just so many things” part, and “Into something real(reel)”
