External Drive fix for OS X SL

I’m aware not everyone has the same setup as I do, so I’m not sure if this is even applicable. But I’ll share it anyway in case people are experiencing the same issue.

So I’ve decided to “upgrade” the Hackintosh 1 My main desktop/work computer to Snow Leopard (SL). I was hesitant to leave Leopard (especially for the work machine) because of this bug I experienced in my MacBook Pro.

Few down, few more to go

So the bank issue was finally put to rest; the bank had charged back the double payment their stupid automated system had executed.

Was an extreme hassle though: I was about to pay the Electric bill, but I couldn’t do it online anymore (because the bill was a few days past the due date). It was doubly frustrating because the due date was the day after I filed the complaint – so the frackin’ bill could’ve been paid for in good time if they hadn’t mistakenly siphoned off the money I was supposed to use to pay for it. So I now had to do it over the counter.

If hadn’t aggressively followed it up the very next day I filed the complaint, it probably would’ve been fixed after a week. Normally it takes 5 business days to process complaints, factoring in the weekend, that would put it over the 6-day limit. If I hadn’t taken the initiative of hounding them about it, I’d end up having to go to Meralco offices personally to sort it out.

I really wish the bank knew how much of a hassle their mistake had put me in.

Looking at the brighter side; there’s a “bayad center” somewhere in Tiendesitas – and they accept overdue bills up to 6 days after the due date. 1 So thankfully, it didn’t get to the point where I had to visit Meralco’s offices. Also, there was parking, and I was in and out in record time and didn’t have to pay a parking fee.

If you want something done right…

You really got to do it yourself.

I actually had written this blog before lunch, assuming that the issue I was posting about had been resolved – but it turns out that wasn’t the end of it. Since I’ve ended up filing a formal complaint to my bank describing the whole “incident,” I thought posting the link to the letter would save me a lot of time typing.

Kulang nalang sabihin ko: “Alam ninyo, Tunay Na Lalake kayo; KSE ANG LABO NINYONG KAUSAP!”

It may have been heavy handed but that’s just the way I deal with issues. Besides, I have experienced something similar in the past 1 Related to “blessing 1”

It just begs the question though; is this “general unreliability” a cultural thing in our country? I mean it even kinda extends even to the workplace, and it just annoys the hell out of me. But I don’t want to dwell on it, as long as I’m not like that, then that should be good enough for me.

Instead, I just decided to see the brighter side of it: I mentioned in a previous post, that a lot of my other issues suddenly sorted themselves out – best of which (so far) was finding out that I didn’t have to worry about the prospect of spending on an operation. I didn’t expect this new expense, but you know what – at least I’m healthy and I probably would’ve spent more if I had been sick. Read More

Half Full indeed

It’s amazing how being positive and hopeful can make a difference in one’s disposition and actual reality.

I remember just a week ago when I was wallowing in self-pity, how all the “hassles” I’ve been experiencing suddenly added up and seemed so insurmountable. Now that I’ve gone back to my “usual” disposition, 1 Which consists of two things: one, believing that the world doesn’t owe us any favors, and the other is to see life as half-full instead of empty I couldn’t believe that not only has a huge weight been lifted from me, but also that my actual problems suddenly sorted themselves out!

One example is my concern that I may have kidney stones – just got the results and I’m clean! Still hasn’t explained the high Erythrocyte count on my urine, but again, I’m happy to know that my worries there have been blown out of proportion. Read More

Pain

Last night was the second time I experienced a weird pain on my lower back. In case it’s relevant, the first experience, coincidentally, happened at around the same time (about after midnight) a few days before. I’m just glad it didn’t happen when we were out of town for a show.

I’m having trouble describing the pain; I guess it’s like a mild cramp… but more akin to a very bad case of “kabag” (gas) – only it’s on my lower back (Is that even possible?)

The pain was severe enough to keep me awake all night; no matter what position I shifted to couldn’t alleviate it. And it wasn’t something I could ignore – I had to move because if I laid still – it would get too painful. That experience would last for about an hour, then disappear.

I’m wondering if I should have this checked. Very weird.
