Housecleaning

Today, I decided (read: forced) to do a general cleanup on my room. Technically the cleanup was only limited to my upper cabinets – where all my boxes are stashed. The boxes of the new computer stuff I got were lying around the sala as my cabinets have reached critical mass. Mom thought it would be good for me to re-organize and re-evaluate which stuff have to stay and go.

We also had some cabinets mounted on the maids’ quarters for extra storage space of some sort. I asked when we were going to do the same for my room so I can store those boxes I need access to, but don’t access often (e.g. computer products)

In any case, everything seems to be in order, I was able to get rid of a considerable amount of junk I’ve collected over the past few years – so at least now, I have space to work with.

Of the past days

Finally had time to blog again. A lot of stuff happened starting a few hours after our November 19 album launch. We went to China the next day to follow Mom and tour Shanghai and Beijing.

Technically, we only toured Beijing since we were in Shanghai for one day (inclusive of actually arriving there) and quite frankly, I wasn’t impressed by the city.

It’s supposed to be one of the modern-est (is there such a word?) city in the country, but for some reason it really wasn’t doing anything for me. Probably because I wanted something to take pictures of – and “historicity” (which is what makes traveling with a camera a fun activity) was sorely lacking in that city.

Beijing on the other hand was wonderful! Pics are at the gallery

Stuff over the week

Air Compressor

I went shopping the other day for an air compressor so I wouldn’t have to borrow one anymore. Suffice to say I was able to get one plus a duster-gun addon, so basically I have something that’s specifically made for cleaning dusty objects/components (e.g. my computer)

Microphone Stand

Another thing I found while searching for the compressor was a microphone stand. When I record at home, I usually hold the mic, which meant that I never could use the pop filter I had purchased with it. I was lucky enough to find a mini mic stand, which was exactly what I needed to conserve space. For 350 pesos, it was a brainless purchase.

Gaming

I was itching to try the new PC with some cool game, unfortunately, I played all the newer ones (or at least, the new ones I liked) already. So I decided to re-install some old ones. Namely, Prince of Persia 2 – The Warrior Within for the gameplay/story, and Doom 3, for the graphics engine everyone was raving about in the past.

To give an idea of the performance: 1280×1024, all settings maxed (save for the antialiasing, which I just set at 4x), WITHOUT a pagefile in Windows 1 This means most of the time, everything is working directly from the RAM (which is a risky setting, but very much doable). It is to be noted that I haven’t pushed the card to it’s “limits” since I simply put in the settings I would like to play with… not neccessarily what the card is capable of. I guess I’ll try maxing everything out one of these days to see if the framerates can hold.
