Evolution: the picture post

Looking back at my life, it’s quite amusing how my [computer] setup has evolved over time. I recall the days when I was only using a plain vanilla PC with a graphics card just enough to play games at their lowest settings, a 15″ CRT monitor, etc. etc. – I guess it just shows how much of a geek I am.

Getting my first job after college, Nono and I (or was it just only me) cashed in our computer loans and I got a relatively good computer, of course still with the beige chassis, but at least with a whopping 17″ (which was big at that time). Of course along the course of my life, I was given the opportunity to save up (whether from jobs or rackets) and finally indulge in some personal “luxuries.”

I’ve been posting pictures of the new stuff in my Gallery and Flickr accounts, but really had no chance to “talk” about them – so I guess this post would be the perfect opportunity to do so.

Re-organization

Because of the increasing number of “stuff” I have in my room, I decided to replace my computer table with a real table. I guess this was made possible because of the switch to LCDs, which consume much less space, and are presentable right out of the box (one of the uses of computer tables is that they can make big ugly CRT monitors still look presentable in a given environment). I got myself a 750x75cm table which will hopefully, give me more space to work with while being more compact than my current setup.

Anyways, as of the moment, this is how my room is laid out:

Notice how far off the computer is from the edges – that was to compensate for the space my computer table was occupying (I sure as hell wasn’t going to waste time trying to reconstruct a vector of that complex table). In any case, it’s obvious how much of a hassle it can become. Read More

My Ecological Footprint

Got this from Jeline. I kinda guessed at some answers since I really wasn’t in the mood to actually measure some stuff 1 Like how many square meters our home is, or how many miles per liter our cars run at.

Anyways, some people may say it’s time to change… I say it’s time to get our asses into space and colonize some planets!

Besides, in terms of supply and demand, why is it that we have to cut on our consumption… why not cut on population? If it wasn’t for the fact that we are over-populated, this kind of lifestyle wouldn’t be an issue. I’m sure we can come up with a couple of billion people who don’t deserve to live in this world hehehe.

Away from home

I’ve been having a blast for the most part from our holiday trip to the US. I actually started posting pics in the gallery… which is a work in progress.

The only bummer in this trip is that it’s so hard for me to get an internet connection. My aunt and uncle’s house only has one PC which can connect, and it has a couple of issues:

  • It connects via dial-up (the MPB doesn’t have a dial up adapter)
  • It had a resolution of 640×480
  • It had 16 colors (yes, 16 colors, not 16-bit color)
  • Its OS is Windows 98
