Kelly Clarkson: Breakaway

I just finished listening to Kelly Clarkson’s album Breakaway. For those who don’t know her, she was the first American Idol.

I think she really found her genre; pop/alternative bordering on rock… sorta what like Pink does. In fact, if the songs go “heavier” she can even pull of an Evanescence-ish angle.

Well, whatever it is she’s trying to do, her voice and style fit it perfectly. One song that particularly caught my attention was “Because of You” – I can probably think of a bunch of people who could claim that this is their song. One of the better sawi-songs if you will.

Satya

Last night, we watched a Berklee Jazz band here in Manila. GP, being from Berklee, knew the band leader/keyboard player and was given complimentary invitations to what should’ve been a 2,000 peso per ticket show.

The band was ok, but there were a couple of major turn-offs on the whole event. One was the crowd were all sponsors. It kinda gave it a whole “pointless” feeling to the show. You want to share your music to the world but all people that ended up watching were “required” to because they actually are the same people that brought you here hehehe.

Another was the vocalist. She practically sucked. Sure she had a high voice, and could carry a pitch, but my god, jazz being jazz (and were still debating whether or not most of the repertoire should be considered as the “jazz” that we should’ve been expecting, as Katz would say, it was simply CityLite 88.3 music, hardly old-school)… especially in the “Berklee” context (as GP explained to me the Jazz culture in the school) she was definitely mediocre. The instrumentalists were good though, so basically if she hadn’t been there, we would’ve probably enjoyed it more.

Of the days that passed

Been a while since I posted, but too much has happened for me to recall every detail so I’ll try to summarize everything.

Early last week, GP, Mr. Jojo, and I watched Madagascar. We tried the premiere theater in Shangri-la (the 300 peso-ish, unlimited popcorn and drink theater). Hilarious movie. I loved those penguins!

Late last week, BP was in Tagaytay for Paola’s wedding. The “kid” of BP (which is ironic since she’s older than most of the newer members including ME) was finally getting hitched. They reserved a cottage for the group in Caleruega… about 10 meters away from the church, which made it extremely easy for us to sleep late and wake up late and still make it without breaking a sweat.

Unfortunately, I developed a severe cough which killed my voice come the reception.

Sunday evening, upon returning home GP and I went to the DWTL mass, but only for the mass, I couldn’t sing since my voice was shot to hell. Glad to see some of the “oldies” still there at least for the Mass.

That same night, we met up with JD, Pia, and Leo (of ACS) to watch Sin City (finally!). All I can say is that I love Jessica Alba. She is a goddess.

Yesterday probably deserves its own post so I’ll stop right here for now.

Apple and Intel, sitting on a tree

There are mixed feelings about the whole Apple-Intel marriage. It’s pretty clear now that Apple is indeed switching to Intel processors by June 2006

So there’s no use in speculating what their intentions are: whether it was a sincere move in the spirit of innovation, or a simply marketing move to ensure stock/market growth are all beside the point at this juncture. Instead, it would be better to think about what possible benefits/consequences/implications this development entails.

Nawawala, bumabalik… eto nanaman.

Has it been that long since I posted? Oh well just prove’s that GP is indeed back, as he is here to destroy our lives once again hahaha. That is how we describe his “influence” on people since he can manage to screw anyone’s daily routines because everyone likes hanging out with him.

Anyways, so a bunch of days ago I get a call from him on my cell:

GP: So, kelan natin sisimulan ang atin Berklee tutorial? ME: (jokingly) Ikaw, anytime… how about now? GP: cge ME / GP: (pause) GP: Meron ka ba cellphone na pede mahiram? ME: Even if I did have an extra cellphone, how will I be able to get it to you since nasa US ka at nasa pinas ako. GP: Nasa Pinas din ako ME: (swearing like crazy) – Ano gimmick? Punta na ako diyan!!!
