There were a lot of cool comments on my previous post on politics (from like 3 people hahahaha) But really though there were little who considered my post as something worth addressing, I really appreciated their input.
Because I’m gonna level with you guys, I’m not really that “up-to-date” with politics. In fact I’m right on the edge of being ignorant. When something happens, I don’t bother reading up on it, I simply ask around what’s happening and what people think about it. All this is not because I don’t have the capacity to be analytical, but simply because I’ve lost faith in the system. I think whatever bitching and whining anyone does (myself included) is an utter waste of time.
But why do I still take the time to “rant?” Simple: Because it’s fun! hahahaha.
Below is a revised version if what I had posted in the past (as a random thought, so people might’ve missed it)… my take on politics in general. The points raised were never meant to challenge people to acton, but simply explaining why I don’t take the system seriously anymore.
Our friend mentioned that she had heard during the rally, a kid begging his/her mother that he/she was hungry and the answer was:
Teka lang, hindi pa tayo nababayaran.
Aint that sad? I will not even try to presume I can relate to how desperate these people may be, but I really hoped they knew better than that. I tried to have some faith in them as thinking human beings.
We have more than proven that we are not ready, or even worthy of independence since we cant take care of ourselves, much less our country but let me take it a step further: are we really ready for democracy? Where the equal power of the vote is granted those who apparently dont think at all?
I always hear nationalistic eggheads dissappointed with people like me who lost hope in the country. They say that you should do your part no matter how small. Or that how can I turn my back on my country so easily when it needs me the most.
My answer is simple: The country doesnt need anyone with proper methods nowadays. The government and society has already developed an immunity where the pen, or intellect couldve made a difference. What we need is a fucking revolution. Replace everyone in power now with fresh people… not elected by our people, preferably from higher developed economies to set the country straight.
After which, kill-off democracy for the time being, 99% of the population is stupid, deal with it. This is not the time to have faith in the people, because they could be bought… so most of these “people” we should have faith in are now part of the problem. Dont go on giving them the power to vote then blame us sane people for not wasting our time. If I wanted to vote, Id like to be sure first that these stupid masses dont ruin our chances of electing a decent leader. Otherwise, I think voting as a minority is an utter waste of time, gas, ink and paper.
Truth be told, considering who we get elected, and considering the people “empowered” to select such people. Id say the Philippines is getting exactly what it deserves!
If you want me to do my “part,” then first legalize killing, Im sure a bunch of people (myself included) would be more than happy to clean up. Otherwise, just leave everything to divine intervention. Because no amount of “intellectual action” will ever get us out of the hole weve put ourselves in.
So yes, I will fully accept people judging me as insensitive to the country. I will fully accept people saying I don’t have the right to be ranting when I myself am not doing anything. Basically, I won’t contest any ill-will towards myself because of my lack of concern. But at least understand why I’m like this before you hate my guts.
I appreciate however, the comments that still respected my opinions… no matter how sick they may seem to any idealist.
Not that it matters, but if I was given a choice, a drastic change in the system is truly is needed – I agree with one commenter who mentioned that we’re not ready for democracy. But then, a change to what, I still don’t know. I’d be inclined to think any other government where the power isn’t with the general population.
Of course, the fear will be who is put into power, and who decides to select the members of whatever new government is installed? I don’t think Filipino’s should have a choice in the matter too… especially not anyone in power today.
We probably could look to foreign occupation to select the leaders of this new “regime?” Of course we can’t trust Americans now since they were stupid enough to elect Bush twice. I’m thinking Singapore or Japan would be good candidates.
Singapore because it’s proof of how an economically driven government can work. Cars being unreasonably priced there could probably start another rally here, but considering that all is done for a utilitarian end, it somehow worked for them.
Japan ‘cuz regardless of their “weirdness,” their culture is truly honor-driven (whereas we are usually attributed with the crab-mentality). Japan is a country where you can literally have faith in the people, because if push comes to shove, they will, hand-in-hand rebuild their nation in the spirit of the greater good (just look at how they recovered from the atomic bomb)
Singapore’s government, which can handle a country with virtually no natural resources, coupled with Japan’s inherently responsible culture would be a match made in heaven. Unfortunately, the Philippines never had any of these traits, and I doubt we’ll ever will, not if it goes on like this.
I’ll say it again: WE CANNOT CARE FOR EACH OTHER, AND WE CANNOT TAKE CARE OF OURSELVES
What I find really sad is how people seem to distill the arguments to simple points. I mean, who can really argue with justice, truth and freedom right? But as much as these fundamentals are correct, they simply aren’t applicable to us at this juncture.
I agree that fundamentally, the simple answer is that Gloria must go. And I truly wish it were that simple. If it were that simple, then we shouldn’t be having this discussion at all right? Or if it were that simple, then there shouldn’t be corruption at all. If it were that simple, we should never have elected Erap in the first place.
So why is it that we’re still in this situation when we have been sticking to these “simple” principles? I mean we easily find reasons to “kick things out” because of these principles right? Wether it be Marcos, America, Erap, etc., we have successfully given them the boot because of these fundamental points. But why aren’t we going anywhere?
I’ll tell you why, because the “majority” to whom these “principles” are entrusted to (us the Filipinos) cannot fathom the need to exercise them judiciously. Wether it be the masses who don’t know better, or all us people who do not propose a feasible solution beyond their rants and rallies.
The world isn’t black and white. So applying “simple” answers, I submit, will not work… especially in our situation. While I prefer that Gloria stepped down (or ousted), I don’t believe in kicking her out “simply because.”

yeah…i guess something has to be said for ‘non-democratic’ forms of government…see Singapore and China for instance…sure certain freedoms are curtailed but in exchange for that is progress…I know people are gonna say that I’m just saying that becasue I didn’t live through martial law and stuff but martial law is the extreme end of that spectrum… which would you rather have…a progressive country without certain freedoms or a ‘free’ country constantly sinking to depths of despair? i know what my choice will be…also along this point is the fact that as our country sinks deeper and deeper the very same freedoms that we cherish will be curtailed/hindered by other factors such as the economy and the state of peace and order…how are you gonna express press freedom if majority of your population can’t read or don’t have the money to buy a tabloid…let alone a broadsheet? how are you gonna exercise your freedoms if the state of peace and order is such that you can’t go out of your home for fear of being bombed to bits? ‘nough said…:D
