Wow-huawei!

Not sure if I got the pun accross effectively; the title’s supposed to be like “Wowowee!” (better to be safe and explain – than to risk looking like an idiot)

Anyways, while pretty late in the game, I finally succumbed to the temptation of buying myself a MiFi. As Manu Sandejas told me once while shopping for bike parts;

The best way to get rid of temptation is to give in. Then you wouldn’t be tempted anymore; problem solved 😉

Kidding aside, the reason I was considering getting a MiFi despite having unlimited internet with my iPad 3G – was because there would be times that the iPad would run out of juice, and I would’ve wanted to continue whatever I was doing on the iPhone. There were even times that I wanted to get online specifically with the iPhone 1 like IMing, or simply checking Facebook through the mobile app – which is much faster than accessing the full webpage as the iPad was too cumbersome to pull out.

And of course, the more “internet-enabled” devices you have, it will make more and more sense to be able to share a single connection between them. Much like why most households now have routers. 2 When was the last time you saw a person subscribe to two DSL lines because he wanted two computers connected? Probably never, because it’s absurd. When Idealism Holds the Mind Hostage

This is what you get when you choose symbols over true leadership. – Carlos Celdran

Cris IMed me and told me that this article in AntiPinoy.com was so me.

And indeed, a lot of the points it had were concerns I’ve already raised in a post I wrote last May

So early in the game and it seems like things are turning out the way we had anticipated.

For the record, everything I say below may sound harsh and pessimistic, but I still try to cut the current administration some slack – after all, at this juncture we’re quite literally stuck with them for a few years. I just feel that I need to raise these points so that people who support him would listen – for the next time we have to vote for a leader.

It’s a long shot, but hopefully this post can give enough solid arguments to convince people that you should not vote with sentiment, but with logic. Read More

How Could I Have Missed That!?

I feel like such an idiot.

So I needed a DVI monitor cable that exceeded 3 meters. The standard cables that come with any monitor are usually in the range of 1.5-2 meters.

I went to GH to scour for some cables to no avail. A guy from one of the shops asked me if I had an HDMI cable since they’ve got HDMI-DVI adaptors. In my arrogance, I immediately dismissed the guy. After all, I was clearly in need of DVI and not HDMI.

I started walking away being all smug with my “I know technology, don’t go suggesting stupid things like that” attitude… then I froze in my tracks after a few meters. Read More

Industrial Grade

I’ve been neglecting my blog for quite a while now. Super busy with work, and all that jazz.

But I guess the highlight of me being incommunicado would be my forced “revamping” of my room/work area.

It all started when my airconditioner (a/c) of 48 years 1 In truth, I’ve had it since grade-school finally died. Since I didn’t really want to have to think too much about what new one I should get, I asked my brother in law about it. 2 since their family business is installing air conditioners on an industrial/enterprise scale I simply asked what was best for my room assuming 24/7 operation and energy efficiency. VFF Classics tensioner hack

In my previous post, I demonstrated a way to add a little something to make that darned Vibram tab behave itself. Unfortunately for me, there was no joy in the compounds I’ve been using for glue. So I ended up reversing the mod and think of another way to deal with my issues.

I revisited the idea of cutting the cord, but still couldn’t push through with it. Testicular fortitude FAIL. I did recall, however, one comment in that thread that held a lot of promise.

In summary, it suggested a way to take away the tensioner… without having to cut the cord. Even better; it’s possible to do it in a way that you’d still be able to put the tensioner back! This means you’ll be able to experiment with the feeling of having the cord cut 1 Since the tensioner being gone will give enough slack on the strap to not tighten the shoe in any way. without having to drastically modify a “core design feature” of the Classic line. 2 And admit it, the tab/branding is nice if it only would behave itself.

So if you’re considering cutting the cord altogether, this would be a good way to “test” if you’ll regret your decision. Read More
