Net Neutrality

I was thinking a possible conspiracy theory behind the whole Net Neutrality thing. For those who don’t know what Net Neutrality is (quoted from wikipedia)

It identifies network bias toward or against particular classes of application or providers of content or services.

The general principle that network providers should not discriminate between people or organizations that provide services over a network. Companies selling broadband Internet access to consumers should not make contracts with service providers (such as websites) to provide better Internet access than is available for service providers who don’t have such agreements.

In the Philippines it really doesn’t matter because we’ve already lost the battle. Our telcos pretty much have a monopoly over the communication resources – so we are all already living in a world where “Net Neutrality” is already a lost cause.

Pirate POV

I’m we all know how thepiratebay was raided a while back (and has since gone back up). But this particular incident really got the whole P2P community up and arms and hopefully would do some serious damage to those “legal” entities that try to bully those who support P2P.

The translation of the speech is found here

I’d really urge everyone to read it as it was a very enlightening read to how “pirates” minds work.

Slashdot has also previously reported on services like iTunes gaining in popularity over P2P services. “The findings indicate that the music industry is approaching a strategic milestone with the population of legal downloaders close to exceeding that of pirates,” said Entertainment Media Research chief executive Russell Hart.'”

The Scene

I came across this site: http://www.welcometothescene.com

Downloaded the episodes (there are three as of this posting). Though there are some parts that were dragging, the series was pretty interesting.

I guess it would be considered a fiction-based-on-fact kind of series wherein they try to portray the activities CPX, a piracy outfit which specializes on the pre-release of coming movies.

I’m sure we can all relate to those types of movies… especially in the Philippines! hehehe.
