I’m just testing out the new Lumix, and I don’t know if it’s because I’m just used to my 20D, but the pics are too noisy for my taste. I have to try to borrow other point and shoot cameras to double check if it simply is an issue of point-and-shoots in general. In any case, it doesn’t matter since it ain’t mine.

Since my 20D isn’t back yet, I thought I should just use the new cam for my new stuff. The canalphones really needed live pictures because it’s so hard to describe in text my particular concerns without sounding too complicated – so I thought it would be better to have pictures for the benefit of the people who actually are interested in whatever the hell I put in my blog.

Etymotic Research ER4P

Ok remember when I was rationalizing how getting the EM3s was enough to not get the upper class headphones (e.g. e5c, UE10 pro, ER4P/S)? Well I friggin’ caved! As of tomorrow morning I’m going back to the Norman Audio showroom, to get a pair of Etymotic Research ER4Ps.

These are one of the many “upper class” canalphones I rationalized to be too expensive to invest in (but never did I question their quality), hence settling for the kick-ass FutureSonics EM3s

This has a backstory to it, which of course is a further rationalization of how weak I am when it comes to technolust hahaha. Surprisingly though my mom didn’t question my decision at all… maybe it was because she just bought a digicam for herself without actually knowing what the hell she wanted. We chose for her, and I must say it was a nice Panasonic Lumix (Leica lens) bargain. Anyways, I digress. Read More

FutureSonics EM3… No. Actually, a primer on in-ear headphones.

Future Sonics EM3

Actually, Music as a primary category for this post is erroneous… should’ve been “Audio” or something.

Anyways, I’ve gone ahead and done it again, ordered a “ridiculously expensive” audio product. Along the way, you’ll find out that it was actually cheap (hahaha like every other thing I buy – except for the powerbook) but right now, I don’t think I stand a chance of convincing anyone that dropping 100USD for headphones that look like this is actually a steal!

So why did I get them? Read on…

ASAP

I just have to post this while it’s still fresh. I was in my sis’ room fiddling with the dogs, when ASAP showed Toni (spelling?) Gonzaga, the Coke Girl, and this other artist (model?)

Toni is pretty good! Doing a Mariah Carey and actually delivering the goods!

That Coke Girl however sucked. This is exactly why I don’t take voice-timbre that seriously, because there are people who sound really good, but are too limited in their style. Suffice to say that the Coke Girl should really stick to singing sweet songs. No belting, no R&B, nothing else.

The Filipino’s are generally a music-inclined people. Most Filipino’s know good music when they hear it – regardless if they themselves are good or not. Which is why there are soooooo many people you will come across with the “killer” voice – it’s simply a natural standard we probably develop as a people. So there’s bound to be at least one great sounding person in your life – be it a friend, a family member, a choirmate, etc.

In fact, there are too many nice sounding voices out there that it can get quite dull listening to the same “ballady” voice everywhere in all artists (with exceptions of course). I guess It’s a cultural thing to prefer such a sound, and it’s getting really old, really quick… or maybe it’s just me listening to too much diverse music.

On music…

I know this rant is out of the blue (publicly speaking of course), but I just had nothing better to do hehehe.

I’ve always had to debate with myself the proper way to “interpret” music for performance/recording. While I understand the need to be in a “comfort-zone” because of time constraints (and oftentimes simple narrow-mindedness), I can’t help but be frustrated with how some people deal with their “music.” – especially if its something I’m a part of.

Sometimes you want to contribute your ideas, but know beyond a doubt (in fact it was already proven once or twice) that they are too “aged” to listen to your input… I guess the saying “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks” (unless the dog is a “hip” and “updated” fellow)

I would just want to set my mind at ease – by claiming that I definitely can make things better… if allowed to. And all my friends who really know me [musically] had constantly been on my case saying “why don’t you exert yourself?,” or “you’re right… why don’t you speak up?”

While I do appreciate their sentiments and support, I just can’t because I’m not the type who’d “force the issue.” For something to work, everyone must agree with it. If I do something better, but people don’t appreciate the methods I used to achieve them (if it gets political for example) – I consider that a waste of time. What’s important for me is growth for everyone… not a chance to be condescending and say “I told you so!”

If my help is not asked for (‘cuz I remember offering it already ages ago), then I simply won’t go out of my way to give it to the unappreciative.

A friend of mine who’s definitely has influence in the music whole scene (or at least cannot be denied that he knows what he’s talking about) share my sentiments. Which is great since I never studied music – so I never knew if it was just a personal thing in my part or a real valid argument.
