Now you see it – now you don’t
Today was pretty boring – which wasn’t supposed to be the case since I got my powerbook back yesterday. But was pulled out again today.
Apparently when they said they’d do a full diagnostics check – they meant the opposite. I eventually opened up the laptop’s backplate and was staring down at two 512MB DIMMs – which is correct. So why do I mention it? Because the OS is only reporting 512MB of RAM instead of a gig! At least they were commited to replacing the logic board.
Once that’s done, I will now be able to enumerate the stuff that hasn’t been replaced:
- Superdrive.
- LCD shell (the LCD itself has been replaced)
- Keyboard.
- All inner-components except for the logic board.
- Battery.
- RAM DIMMs
Can’t help but wonder if I had just saved all of those, and just asked for a new MacBook or something hehehe – I can dream can’t I? Sobrang na-sulit ko na yung warranty. – and still got a whole year to go! Read More
WRT54G P2P problems?
I noticed that I’ve been getting erratic behaviour with my router whenever I had bittorrent running. After a while it would always slow down to a crawl – where I had to reboot the router to get things back to normal. While rebooting the router manually (or via GUI, after much waiting) solves this. The problem always returned, which suggests that there’s something wrong with how the router handles P2P connections. I decided to look around for cases of the same problem.
The default firmware for Linksys and most routers track old connections for five days, then start to clear dead connections – which causes the router to hang when using P2P apps, or any software that generates a lot of connections which the router can’t take. DHT only aggravates the situation because of the number of connections it generates.
Linksys has yet to address this issue, but there is a fix. If you use alternative WRT54G firmware, you can put in a start-up script to fix this problem.
I just applied the fix they mention down this post, only time will tell if it actually worked. Read More
Hilarious Harry Potter audiobook mashup
While listening to DistortedView, I just had to lift a part where he played an erotica mashup from the Harry Potter audiobook series. The track is supposed to be from a CD by Cassetteboy called Dead Horse. I have to say the the audio splicing here is very impressive, while you can hear the shifts in the tones, it still takes a ton of effort to find a “nearest neighbor” type of inflection of a certain word. Suffice to say, with very few exceptions, it sounds very natural for the most part.

I can’t wait till Cassetteboy’s CD rears it’s head on AllofMP3, that sucker’s a sure download for me!
