New wallpaper

For some reason, I thought I wanted a new look for my desktop. So I went ahead and did this:

I dunno about you guys, but I really like the simplicity of it, plus the general darkness of the wallpaper is better for the LCD’s lifespan. I put the dock to the right and made the background transparent… and finally set the application arrows to grey instead of black.

GoogleTalk and IM in general

Regardless of my opinions about GoogleTalk (which I will discuss below), I’ve added GTalk to Adium.

Hence, to make a long story short, if any friend out there [who’s reading this] has GoogleTalk, e-mail me your account name so I can add you.

You can also hit me via IM on any of my other accounts, just don’t use the comments section of the blog for obvious reasons… unless you want to take the risk of spammers aggregating your emails.

Normally, I’d be fine with posting my GMail address here, but ever since I got the account I never really gave it out to people because I want people to remember my yahoo address alone (and I simply forward it to GMail in case I want to use it)

Now what is my opinion about GTalk? And why did I bother installing it? Read on…

Warranties

I remember the time when I bought stuff and didn’t really care about warranties with the notion that “in the Philippines,” warranties won’t matter since the service, in general, sucks.

But as my gadgets grew more complex, I noticed the need for them and made sure that certain stuff I buy needed warranties because

  1. There are companies that are reliable.
  2. Some stuff really break easy.
  3. Murphy’s law… ’nuff said.

I guess I’m just posting this now because my powerbook ordeal today reminded me of how warranties have saved a lot of moolah. I’ve already had a bunch of equipment covered by warranty one way or the other. Off the top of my head, I already had my 20D, PC power supply unit, pc motherboard, powerbook, ImageTank, speakers, and earphones fixed/replaced under warranty.

I just got the bottom case of the powerbook replaced for the second time today. And the fact that it was under warranty made it a very joyous occasion considering the situation…

Random thoughts

So much has happened since the last time I’ve blogged, but I’m not in the mood to go into details.

I will mention though that one of the more notable events was a series of concerts we had in the AFP theater, after each we would setup camp at Jeline’s till the weekend was over.

It was a fun concert because we would call it the “Soulsearch get-together” since apparently our group found its way to so many different groups and suddenly merged into one event. Jeline, Chris, Jonel from the Ateneo Chamber Singers, Elaine from Hangad (and ACS), me from BukasPalad, and GP as the arranger of a bunch of songs, and pianist of the orchestra (and ACS member too)

It’s like every “group” you’d check out, there was at least one Soulsearch member in there. What a waste that Chrise and Joy (Hangad) weren’t there. If the Madrigal Singers were there, then Soulsearch would still have been represented by Papo hahahha. We’re like insects infesting the music world hehehehe.

More Tiger stuff for reference

No need to read this… this is just for my personal reference. But I do have a little bit of a “new software utility” mentioned down there, as well as a nifty power tip. So if you’re an OSX user, then you may find it useful too.
