Apple bang for buck

Better post this before someone else does:

The base price of the new Apple Mac Pro Quad Desktop ($2,499) might have some people reeling from sticker shock. But during the keynote speech today at WWDC, Apple compared the Mac Pro to an equivalent Dell workstation and found the Mac to be much cheaper. We figured we’d check their math, and sure enough, when compared to a similarly-equipped Dell system, the Mac Pro comes out looking like an absolute bargain.

Take the Dell Precision Workstation 690, for instance. When kitted out with two Intel Xeon 5150 2.66GHz dual-core processors, 250GB hard drive, 2GB of 667MHz RAM, and 16x DVD burner, you’ll end up paying $3,637. That’s over $1,100 more than the base Mac Pro, which has a similar configuration. And unlike the Mac Pro, which can run Windows XP via Boot Camp, I wouldn’t expect to see Mac OS X supported on this Dell any time in the near future.

While I do concede to these facts, I’m still not convinced as far as true value for money goes.

Abel is gone

While I had no intentions of naming my monitors, I ended up having to – since they both register as “VX922,” and it’s quite hard to tell them apart when fiddling around with the settings. Hence I dubbed them Cain and Abel respectively hehehe.

Anyways, I had Abel returned for replacement/repair as it had a dead pixel. The “serivice” unit given to me for the time being was a ViewSonic VA1912wb 19″ widescreen. I thought this would be the perfect time to test out the “align” feature in the display properties (for monitors that have different resolutions, you have the option to offset your native monitor alignment). This is the result of the re-alignment

Browsers, etc.

I felt compelled to post this as Nono mentioned me in his recent post… which could lead people to misinterpret some stuff.

What I said was correct though, so no change is necessary in his entry, but I just had to qualify something I had said, something which I think may be interpreted wrongly by those who don’t know (or be slammed by those who do hahahaha). Also, to reiterate what I posted as a comment.

As promised

Well, not that anyone cares, but I did say that I was compelled to justify my earlier purchase of a certain mixer, so just skip this post if you ain’t interested.
