MacBook Air: Hands-on

Okay, how about a post where I’m not talking out of my ass? Let’s talk technology, people. I replaced my 1st gen 15″ 2.4GHz Unibody MacBook Pro with the new 13″ 1.86Ghz MacBook Air and I’m going to share my thoughts on the matter.

Now for those who know me, you may be wondering why I would get such an underpowered machine to replace a MacBook Pro. In a nutshell, I’ve always liked the concept of the MacBook Air; that is to say that as much as I’m a power user, it being underpowered was never the “deal breaker” for me. I didn’t really mind compromise because I had a desktop for the real heavy lifting. So the question was never “How powerful is it?” but rather “Does the power/experience it offers justify the price tag?”

In yesterday’s post, I only touched on physical impressions I had on my E583C. Because of my excitement (understandably so), I wasn’t able to hold off the post till I actually got to put the thing through its paces. Instead, I just ended it with a cop-out statement:

The only thing to really evaluate with gadgets like these is how powerful/reliable their antennae and WiFi beacons are. So I’ll be using this unit quite a bit and compare it to how my broadband account would perform when stuck directly into the iPad.

But assuming the thing actually does what its advertised to do, even if it doesn’t do it spectacularly, I really can’t find any reason why it wouldn’t be a worthwhile investment for anyone who wants connectivity on the go.

The logic of the statement is obviously sound, but in this post, I’ll confirm what we’ve all been wondering: Will it blend?

Just kidding, I meant “how does it perform?” Read More

A lot of friends have been asking about my new “footwear” – especially since I wear them almost exclusively nowadays regardless of how controversial they “look.” While it’s nothing Google can’t answer, I’ll try to explain what the deal is with these shoes for those who are “tamad” to do the research.

Before getting into the details, let me answer one of the questions that’s often been asked: are they really that good? 1 and by “good” they probably mean “comfortable” To that, my answer would be “depends how much you like doing stuff barefoot.”

Having said that, in my case, ultra-mega-fuckin’ good! Read More

Lian-Li Tyr PC-X2000

I’ve finally retired 1 And will shortly put it up on sale after I clean it up my Lian-li PC-75 and reassembled my computer with the new case – and I’m here to do a mini-review on it.

It’s a Lian-li Tyr PC-X2000 which I had ordered last April – which finally arrived today… along with their T7 workbench – which I won’t be talking about. 2 Sufficed to say that when I next upgrade the PC components, all the old ones will go to the workbench and be used as a diagnostics/repair machine Read More
