BP in Alabang

A contingent of BP went to the Global Content Center studios to record backing tracks for Reymond Sajor’s 1 Of Philippine Idol fame – and also holds the title of “Grand Champion, Senior Vocalist of the World” from the 11th World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) which was held in Los Angeles. song “Stand,” which will be part of his upcoming album REYMOND SAJOR: COMING HOME

I regret not having my camera with me (it’s being repaired) as it truly was a unique place to be in – and I finally got to see where a friend of mine worked first hand:

Ey Ria, look familar?

More pics from crap-cam (iPhone) posted on the gallery… I swear, for an Apple product, the camera on the iPhone is of stunning dismal quality. I did a faux-lomo effect on all of them just to make them more interesting.

Oh, and Ria, don’t worry; I didn’t touch anything in your office 2 Just in case you’re the territorial type hehehe. save for the chair, the light-switch. your doorknob, and of course my arm resting on your keyboard 😉

Trinoma

When Cris, Pia, and I went to Shangri-la [mall] last year to get my birthday gift, I noticed a compact Eagle-Creek Koala toiletry bag.

Knowing me; Mr. pack-rat utilities guy, it was the sort of product I knew would be useful (moreover, I would have use for) in the future. But I just brushed off the idea since I didn’t need it at that moment.

Sure enough, while trying to maximize available luggage space for our choir’s upcoming trip, I couldn’t use my clunky old Nike toiletry bag. The first thing that I thought was “I need to get that bag I saw last year!”

You know how it usually goes; how the universe usually conspires against someone in their quest for something. And you know that I never quit unless I have good reason to… thus began the journey to find the elusive Koala toiletry kit.

Oh and before you proceed, be warned that there are a lot of useless trivia and pics here… I’m just looking for an excuse to post some photos from my iPhone.

Weekend date with my D300

So our [choir]0 went on an out of town performance / outing last weekend. Was probably the only time I got to use my brand spankin’ new cam.

The Verdict

Considering I failed to notice any learning curve from the time I started using it that morning, I really have to say that the switch to the new system was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. In fact, I could argue I really was more efficient in taking shots because of how it solved almost all my personal gripes about the previous system I had in one fell swoop. I do recall saying to myself numerous times “I fucking love this cam” when I realized I had just taken something which I knew I’d probably had more difficulty in getting when I was using my old setup.

I seriously doubt I would have experienced anything similar if I was switching the other way.

Pics here and here.

The Nikon switch

So I finally got my new Nikon system consisting of a D300 and a myriad of “accessories” (I basically matched my 20D, which I will be dispatching soon).

Wasn’t able to play with it much since I was with my GF and we’d probably get into a fight about priorities if I paid too much attention to it.

Today though, in this post, I’ll be discussing the reasons why I personally prefer Nikons now.

The short of it is that both systems (Canon/Nikon) have their strengths and weaknesses; it will just boil down to how a photographer approaches his craft, and which tool maximizes his/her efficiency with his/her personal “workflow.” I have to say with all honesty, as far as my approach is concerned; I’m really really REALLY glad I made the switch.

There’s a good article with minimal bias; the guy’s a Nikon user ultimately so there still is a bias; but the points he raises are very sensible and may shed light into the whole debate without resorting to fanboyism. He goes as far as discussing the history of the two brands and how each leapfrogged each-other at any given time in history.

Another good one would be here. From how I understand it he’s primarily a Canon user nowadays who just invested in the D3 and D300, and intends to use both simultaneously.

Feeling Close

I finally found a use for my iPhone camera (a.k.a. the crap-cam). I’ve decided to put up a set on my gallery dedicated to pictures showing the poor use of english. The few that are up now are mostly the misuse of the word close, when what they really meant was closed (hence the title). They’ll mostly be local, but who knows, maybe I spot something during trips elsewhere.

In time, I’m sure that the set will grow, but just so we’re all clear: I don’t really make it a point to seek these “situations” out – so it probably won’t be a regular thing.
