Why I am NOT a virtuoso

For all the guitarists who might be looking for reasons to quit playing – here’s something that might just do the trick hehehe.

People like this badass Brazilian player who has awesome technique(s) [and melodic solos to boot] are the reason why I have given up trying to be a “lead guitar” player looong ago – and instead just focus on creating/arranging/singing songs hahahaha. It’s much more easier to be a composer/arranger or vocalist than to develop this type of hand-dexterity.

Leap of faith

In an interesting turn of events, I’ve purchased something on faith rather than doing any proper research on it. Actually I didn’t really have a choice since the product’s “nature” to this day is hidden in total secrecy.

One of Neil Diamond’s guitarists Hadley (aka “Radley”) Hockensmith is selling units of his invention called the “Harmonic Converger.” It is a passive device that among other things, eliminates the “fizz” commonly present in digital modelers.

The official information page of the Harmonic Converger (which from this point on I will refer to as “HC”) can be found here

So I’ve purchased one – and thanks to Mara, I’ll [hopefully] be getting it at the end of May.

I’ve also taken the liberty of taking some select audio clips from the internet showcasing what the HC can do. Most (if not all) taken from a really old “HC Test Drive” page created by Radley and a couple of HC users down at Boss GT Central

Obviously the pedalboard being used was a Boss multi-effects processor – specifically, a GT8 like mine if I’m not mistaken. Read More

I remember the time when I asked myself where all the men have gone after watching 300. It seems the world today has become so scrupulous that everyone has been “pussy-fied” that they don’t stand up for their beliefs without having a overall idea of the repercussions first.

I’ve seen many people who have become so inconsistent with their principles that they only stick to their guns if they know they can win – other than that, they’d rather play it safe and kiss some ass if need be just to stay in the game. Those people make me sick.

The Spartans on the other hand, put up a good show of sticking to their guns regardless of what fate awaited them.

But today, one of the most popular news sites in the internet, Digg; which has been recently under attack by its very users – for compromising their democratic principles – has finally made a decision.

Founder Kevin Rose had this to say:

Today was an insane day. And as the founder of Digg, I just wanted to post my thoughts…

In building and shaping the site I’ve always tried to stay as hands on as possible. We’ve always given site moderation (digging/burying) power to the community. Occasionally we step in to remove stories that violate our terms of use (eg. linking to pornography, illegal downloads, racial hate sites, etc.). So today was a difficult day for us. We had to decide whether to remove stories containing a single code based on a cease and desist declaration. We had to make a call, and in our desire to avoid a scenario where Digg would be interrupted or shut down, we decided to comply and remove the stories with the code.

But now, after seeing hundreds of stories and reading thousands of comments, you’ve made it clear. You’d rather see Digg go down fighting than bow down to a bigger company. We hear you, and effective immediately we won’t delete stories or comments containing the code and will deal with whatever the consequences might be.

If we lose, then what the hell, at least we died trying.

Digg on, Kevin

AlphaTrack

So I finally got the AlphaTrack after all this time. Actually I already had the unit since Pia came back – however, the unit had outdated firmware. And for some strange reason, Frontier didn’t have software available to download that can upgrade it.

Yet, as mind-boggling as the decision not to have such software seems; Mr. Brian George, the head of the AlphaTrack development, was kind enough to take the time to find a way to send me a new updated unit as a replacement.

Today, I just spent 3 hours in the post-office/customs to get my replacement unit of the AlphaTrack. I just have to say that I hate Philippine customs.

They are, quite frankly a bunch of bloody thieves. They really find ways to swindle you out of your money and not give you a choice about it. You’re literally at their mercy, and it pisses the hell out of me that you can’t get these motherfuckers fired for their unreasonable actions. Read More

On Nickelback and “musical fraud”

I may be one of the few people that are alone in this (is that sentence even right?) – but I just have to comment on a recent “phenomenon” that has been making waves on the internet about the credibility of Nickelback.

For those of you who don’t know, Nickelback has recently been attacked, accused of “recycling music” – hence are “ripping-off” the fans by feeding them with material that has already been used.

Before I even go any further in my commentary, I suggest you listen to the NPR article about it.
