Pirate POV

I’m we all know how thepiratebay was raided a while back (and has since gone back up). But this particular incident really got the whole P2P community up and arms and hopefully would do some serious damage to those “legal” entities that try to bully those who support P2P.

Anyways, I’m commenting on the speech of Rickard Falkvinge, the “leader” of the Swedish Pirate Party during the Pirate Bay support demonstration.

The translation of the speech is found here

I’d really urge everyone to read it as it was a very enlightening read to how “pirates” minds work.

Bang for buck

Joel and I have been commenting back and forth in one of his posts, and I thought it would be better to just post a blog entry of my whole argument here in my site – instead of second guessing what “perspective” one has to take when stressing the point of the Apple-PC debate in terms of “value for money.”

In summary, the “debate” began from a linked article stating that the “myth” of Apple being more expensive than PCs is finally being debunked, now that the platforms are on a level x86 playing field. And just for the record, I agree that it is in fact a myth when it comes to a certain price-point with laptops.

What I just wanted to clarify however was at this point in time, when it comes to the desktop realm. This isn’t a myth at all. Apple products are indeed much more expensive than the PC counterparts beyond any doubt.

So I thought I would just post the following scenarios and points to clarify my stand.

New song (sorta) with T5

I took a break and fiddled around with the BOSS GT-8 (with the T5 of course), and I thought I ought to at least try recording some of my new material. I have tons of them… but guitar and vocals only.

It’s simple enough to make songs with a guitar and a pen (in my case, the text application of the laptop). The real killer is coming up with the accompaniment to complete the song (bass, drums, strings, etc.). Even if I had a clear idea of the accompaninment – it’s still tedious to sift through the software and pinpoint a patch that is closest to what I had imagined (not to mention having to go surgical with a myriad of plugins and EQ just to shape the tone into what I want).

And that’s only the “laying in of the tracks” part of it. Mixing, then mastering is a whole different beast altogether. Read More

Bato bato sa langit…

Let me pose some questions:

  1. Is it or is it not pathetic when someone uses someone else’s info and pass it off as their own?
  2. Is it or is it not more pathetic when they actually try to use such content in conversations?

Who would’ve thought that the latter would be possible eh? The internet, with all it’s blogs, boards, or any text-based communication medium makes this sort of plagiarism possible. I recall distinctly on one of my “political” posts, some comments which made so much sense, which were so articulate – but alas, had said too much (citing other views/responses that had nothing to do with MY post) AND sounded so familiar that I swore I read them somewhere before that I just had to try googling the phrases – and ended up finding a whole bunch of articles by Conrad de Quiros which contained the very same “responses” verbatim.
