Ben Franklin’s Advice Concerning His Friend’s Sexual Affairs

I just had to share this, it was very amusing.

Franklin had a friend who did not want to get married, but was battling with urges and lustful inclinations for the opposite sex. In the letter which follows, Franklin first advises the friend that the best solution for his urges is marriage. However, since he knows the friend will not take that advice, Franklin goes on to suggest that his friend have sexual affairs with old women. We know from the context that he is suggesting women over 45 years of age (see #3). His words about putting a basket over her head or turning out the light (see #5) illustrate an aspect of Franklin’s character which is seldom exposed.

Adding this to his numerous accomplishments, skills, and interests, I think it was safe to assume that he was definitely a bad-ass during his time!

Moleskine

I was able to buy Moleskine notebooks for me and my girlfriend. These notebooks are awesome, and would make perfect gifts if only they weren’t so damn expensive. The pocket versions cost PhP 900 locally (I got the regular/large sizes, which set you back PhP 1,250 each).

Hiling translated

I felt compelled to translate the song to English for an impending “event”… no, I do not intend to re record it in English. What it’s actually for, you guys will soon know in a couple of weeks.

Suffice to say that this is for those people who don’t know the language (tagalog), but took the effort to listen to the song nonetheless. I truly appreciate the time you took to listen to it – so I’m putting the same effort on translating it to english to make the song make sense to you, as well as show you how much more effective the lyrics were when written in our language. Merom MacBook Pros are out

The Apple Core2 Duo portables have been unleashed, and so I too, will start unleashing my savings and upgrade. The pricing is very impressive since you get a considerable upgrade from the previous generation MacBook Pros for the same price.

If you’ve been holding out to get a MacBook, waiting for the “right-time” to take the plunge, I’d say now is pretty much an ok time to get one. Consider this:

Comparing the USD 1,999 models (lowest-end) 15″ MacBook Pro line, for the newer model you’d be getting:

  1. CPU base speed matching the previous top model (2.16Ghz)
  2. A newer, more efficient CPU in general (Core2 Duo/Merom)
  3. A base RAM matching the previous top model (1GB)
  4. A base HDD size that’s bigger than the previous top model (120GB)
  5. A IEEE 1394 (FireWire) 800 port, which absent from the previous line.
  6. A faster (6x) and dual-layer capable superdrive

Now I’m sure that succeeding versions will still follow the trend, but for the price, I think the models that just came out are very competitive (as compared to the value of my powerbook when it came out)
