While I’m sure there are many reasons for both sides. From a person who stopped caring (at least for the most part) for this country’s political regime(s) here’s what I think.<\/p>\n
Yesterday was a display and vindication of idiocy for both sides, which just further proves that our country’s going right to the shitter.<\/p>\n
Overall here’s what I think: Maybe if we had more serious consequences for stuff like this and actually followed through with them,<\/strong> people would think twice before they try pulling any shit. This is not to deter these types of acts, mind you. These conditions are to make sure that the people who really start these sorts of things really mean business. And I honestly think that Trillianes or any other modern day activist in the Philippines is just not motivated enough to merit the right to be pulling shenanigans like this. And I’ll tell you why.<\/p>\n\n I can respect any form of demonstration, rebellion, hell even revolution, but I can’t help but think that everything that has been happening in this particular country is simply because people fail to recognize the concept of consequences.<\/strong><\/p>\n Those in power take too much of their executive freedom for granted and start doing stuff knowing that when worse comes to worst, they would never be put in a situation to make them absolutely regret<\/strong> what they just did. Erap is “free,” and even if he wasn’t, it’s not like that “detainment home” would even remotely remind him of being in prison. Don’t get me wrong, I honestly don’t care about Erap being free or not anymore, he’s old and quite frankly could keel over any minute now – so I’ll just leave the rest to karma.<\/p>\n What does piss me off in general is our collective lack of backbone… for ALL SIDES. You think that any rally, protest, etc. being done now is a courageous act? Look again, people do it as often as they eat meals nowadays because it’s so easy to do… no one has the concept of consequences<\/strong> anymore because apparently there aren’t any.<\/p>\n While there are numerous compounded issues that probably put us in our current state, but for the whole “consequences” part of it, I can’t help but return to Gringo Honasan.<\/em><\/p>\n Here’s a guy that managed to stay in power while being part of (or behind) most, if not all, major military rebellions during his day. If you were a nationalistic person, who truly believed in the greater good of our country, what would you propose to do with a person who basically performed acts of treason<\/em> multiple times?<\/strong> Would you let him stay in power (apparently we did)? Would you forget the people who died because of him and simply make him do pushups (That’s what we did)? Of course you woudn’t\/shouldn’t!<\/strong> Guys like that deserve to be served the death penalty!<\/strong> It’s fucking treason<\/em> for Chrissake!<\/p>\n Now Trillanes, after the Oakwood incident, was still capable of pulling a stupid stunt like this and I laugh to think what they’ll give to him as punishment, probably some push-ups as well.<\/p>\n Again, ultimately, I’m not against what the Magdalo group stands for, probably even during Honasan’s time. I’m not necessarily for<\/em> it, but I believe people have the right to speak their mind.<\/p>\n But when it comes to acting<\/strong> on anything,<\/em> you better have more resolve and courage than the simple solace that if the shit hits the fan, that you’re probably just going to jail (or maybe they even won’t depending on how “high” they are in politics).<\/p>\n This is what separates these idiots from people like Che Guevara, or the people of the EDSA Revolution. Those people were truly willing to die for their cause, and indeed they did die, and if the cause continued despite<\/em> their sacrifice, then you truly know it was (and probably is) something worth fighting for.<\/p>\n What do Honasan and Trillianes have in common? They’re a bunch of fucking cowards with guns and friends. The fact that they can’t finish what they’ve started is already telling. I won’t even bother to reminding people the numerous times Honasan abandoned his comrades to save his own skin, only to come out of the woodwork to (re)join the fight when it seemed it was safe to do so again. Likewise, Trillianes, for all his shenanigans, gave up after some tear gas and a tank breaking down the door.<\/p>\n How the fuck do these bozos compare to the CIVILIANS<\/strong> who stood in front of the tanks<\/em> during People Power? How do they compare to Guevara who faced his execution with the same courage and resolve to his dying breath?<\/p>\n I’m sorry, but I can’t take these people seriously no matter if their cause was right or wrong. For the same reason one wouldn’t trust a man to represent women’s rights, or a straight man fighting for gay rights. Or a feminist fighting for female rights 1 <\/sup><\/a>A feminist is different from a regular empowered woman. The former takes female issues to the extreme and I personally think isn’t healthy for the overall plight of women’s causes.<\/span><\/span>
