Cingular doesn&#8217;t want to see their West Coast network go down because some application messed up.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>First of all, assuming the techincal implications of this are true (because they simply aren&#8217;t), whose fucking bone-headed idea was it to tie the phone up specifically to Cingular in the first place? The only feature I can see that is <em>directly<\/em> tied to Cingular&#8217;s network would be the visual voice-mail feature &#8211; unless another bone-headed decision was made to even use Cingular&#8217;s network for connecting to the internet as a whole (which is highly unlikely).<\/p>\n<!--more-->\n<p>I suggest Jobs take a look at what people <em>actually write<\/em> for the other OS platforms. What&#8217;s <em>usually<\/em> written are productivity tools (password storage, calculators and converters, etc), <strong>NOT<\/strong> as much for connectivity. And either way, those kinds of software <strong>don&#8217;t need<\/strong> to have access to Cingular&#8217;s network. If ever they needed to go &#8220;online&#8221; all they need is to access the internet via WiFi &#8211; which doesn&#8217;t and shouldn&#8217;t have to be tied to one network.<\/p>\n<p>Also, there&#8217;s the glaring and obvious fact that nobody asked for Apple to tie these &#8220;features&#8221; to any one network. If the world&#8217;s collective memory serves itself right, didn&#8217;t <strong>everyone<\/strong> want the phone to be <strong>unlocked,<\/strong> and <strong>open to any carrier?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Please Mr. Jobs, isn&#8217;t it enough that you&#8217;re arrogantly telling us how we should <em>use<\/em> our phones &#8211; now you want to take us for idiots as well?<\/p>\n<p>Seriously, someone should file an anti-trust case against these guys for monopoly.
