Now you see it – now you don’t<\/h2>\n

Today was pretty boring – which wasn’t supposed to be the case since I got my powerbook back yesterday. But was pulled out again today.<\/p>\n

Apparently when they said they’d do a full diagnostics check – they meant the opposite.<\/em> I eventually opened up the laptop’s backplate and was staring down at two<\/strong> 512MB DIMMs – which is correct. So why do I mention it? Because the OS is only reporting 512MB of RAM instead of a gig! At least they were commited to replacing the logic board.<\/p>\n

Once that’s done, I will now be able to enumerate the stuff that hasn’t<\/strong> been replaced:<\/p>\n

  1. Superdrive.<\/li>\n
  2. LCD shell (the LCD itself has been replaced)<\/li>\n
  3. Keyboard.<\/li>\n
  4. All inner-components except for the logic board.<\/li>\n
  5. Battery.<\/li>\n
  6. RAM DIMMs<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Can’t help but wonder if I had just saved all of those, and just asked for a new MacBook or something hehehe – I can dream can’t I? Sobrang na-sulit ko na yung warranty.<\/em> – and still got a whole year to go!Gimme speed<\/h2>\n

    Also I noticed that bittorrent was unusually quick. I mean it the figures should’ve been commonplace, but knowing the Philippine broadband environment, it was pretty quick considering. Here are the figures from my own ISP<\/p>\n

    Which really isn’t surprising since you’re practically connected to the ISP’s servers themselves.<\/em> Notice how it makes sure to stipulate what you can get with PLDTPlay<\/strong> – why not say you should be getting x amount of data per second for any<\/em> type of data transfer anywhere?<\/p>\n

    But in case that they’re being unbiased (cough)<\/em> in their figures, Globe’s servers show this:<\/p>\n

    Which is pretty close – and leads me to believe that either they’re ultimately connected to some common pseudo backbone in the country, or that they really are effective in deliering data locally.<\/strong><\/p>\n

    However impressive these figures may be, one has to take them with a grain of salt. When you surf, you’re dealing with the rest of the world… and how data traverses through those long distances is what really matters. These are the figures from DSLReports<\/a>, which are much more realistic.<\/p>\n

    And these figures are basically what I saw in bittorrent. And again, I say that they’re pretty quick considering,<\/em> but still not as fast as what they really should be.<\/p>\n

    But for the record, I’m not complaining – because I recall the plan we got years ago was not the fastest one… and seeing it this fast now considering how much we’re paying monthly is relatively ok. 1 <\/sup><\/a>I still have to qualify “relatively” because while, competitive locally, it’s still highway robbery.<\/span><\/span>
