And that painful jolt would beat me into shape.

But surprisingly, the opposite has happened – but with the same effect. Life has been so kind [recently] that I can’t help but appreciate His providence and feel compelled to become a better person… to try to be worthy of it.

Of course, this may just be a high. Like when you go to a retreat, so hindi ako magsasalita ng tapos, but right now, this very moment, it’s crystal clear what I want to do… I just hope it stays that way for my sake, and the sake of everyone else around me.

Anyways, enough of that.

So bale the last time I stepped foot in Christ the King Parish was during a wedding Nono and I had to shoot for. The last time I actually heard mass there (or heard mass at all is beyond my recollection already).

It was so friggin’ cold! I wish I had brought my jacket. And the usual lousy altar paint is there. What the hell were they thinking when they painted that area!?

We attended the 8PM mass, and the music was alien to me. I was so used to BP songs that I totally couldn’t relate! What was bad wasn’t because I couldn’t relate but that I really didn’t dig the songs. Has the taste in liturgical music in some parishes decayed that much? Or am I just biased to BP songs in general? I would like to hope it was the latter… but I really think it’s the former.

There’s a long argument in the discussion boards about “proper” type of music in the church, and there seems to be a stalemate between the old-school views and the more progressive views. After going to mass a while ago, I can honestly say that I’m glad I’m not old-school… because it can get really boring. The songs weren’t old-school sa lagay na yon and already I found it difficult to keep myself engaged in the celebration. Pano pa kaya if they became stricter with the music.

What’s the use of trying to retain the “technical purity” of liturgical music, when you’ll end up alienating everyone in these modern times… to me, it seems more like an obstinate than amicable cause. Whatever music you play, when there’s no one to worship, then the whole celebration loses its point.

So I totally agree with the progressive view of attempting to revitalize the community with music that is pleasing to a given culture.

Just came from mass today, after like how many years of not going to church.
