I wasn’t paying the bills so who was I to suggest anything.

I wish I had though…

The new server is horrible in a web-deployment perspective. I’m sure the technology is there, and the security can be debated, otherwise it wouldn’t be in business that long. But the “efficiency” aspect of everything is shot to hell.

First, the control panel isn’t really a control panel. It’s counter-intuitive and slow to respond, and extremely inflexible for a site of BP’s “complexity.”

Furthermore, I can’t test the site without the domain propagating to the new servers. I can’t even use absolute URLs since their documentation didn’t specify how to access the sites via IP (usually it’s the
http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/~account_name
or something. If ever it was different, they should have friggin’ documentation for it!

Now I can’t even test the site while waiting for the domain to connect (and hopefully be up as soon as possible) – instead I have to wait for the domain… then test and reconfigure the site… and that’s not even taking the email accounts into consideration.

And it only supports one database! How retarded is that? I know that the better “plans” have better features, but come on! One DB? what the hell is this a personal webhosting package!? Now, I had to adjust literally tens-of-thousands of line of code, and will have to redo most of my templates just to reflect the new database references.

Here’s the kicker. Nono apparently had used with that server long ago… his first words upon hearing that we moved to it: “Yuck! I hate them!”

THIS SUCKS! I HATE THAT SERVER AND EVERYTHING IT STANDS FOR!

Though it’s hard to beat 500MB for 30USD a year – once again the age-old mantra of you-get-what-you-pay-for rings true. If you want better stuff, pony-up the cash. A good side of this is that because of how severly limited the new server is, it’s easy to refuse ridiculous requests by grounds that the current setup can’t do it hehehehe. Of course I can always find a way, but I’m sure as hell not going to bust my brains figuring out how to do something with that stupid server unless absolutely necessary.

http://www.bukaspalad.com, as of this posting, is dead.
