If you&#8217;re not well, here are some links to explain why &#8220;squatters are hitting the headlines nowadays.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rappler.com\/move-ph\/32798-libel-case-against-qc-mayor\">Informal settlers went too far by throwing feces<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/getrealphilippines.com\/blog\/2013\/07\/a-lot-of-decent-filipinos-are-getting-fed-up-with-arrogant-squatters\/\">A lot of decent Filipinos are getting fed up with arrogant squatters<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So basically, as I understood it, Mayor Herbert Bautista decided to [finally] crack down on what he called the &#8220;professional squatters&#8221; <span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_1116_1('footnote_plugin_reference_1116_1_1');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_1116_1('footnote_plugin_reference_1116_1_1');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_1116_1_1\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">1 <\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_1116_1_1\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">Which I know a lot of people trying to be PC would disapprove of, but come on!<\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_1116_1_1').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_1116_1_1', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });<\/script> that plagued his City (QC)&#8230; and that snowballed into a whole debate questioning if they should be kicked out. <\/p>\n<p>Take note, these are people who do not own the land which they live in &#8211; and there&#8217;s a debate whether or not it&#8217;s justified to kick them out. Take a minute to let that sink in for a bit.<!--more--><!-- \/\/ --><\/p>\n<p>While the effort of &#8220;cleaning up&#8221; a city certainly isn&#8217;t without unfortunate situations, <span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_1116_1('footnote_plugin_reference_1116_1_2');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_1116_1('footnote_plugin_reference_1116_1_2');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_1116_1_2\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">2 <\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_1116_1_2\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">I mean we are all human beings and as much as we would want to accommodate those who are in need, there really comes a time where lines have to be drawn.<\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_1116_1_2').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_1116_1_2', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });<\/script> one would think that at the very least, everyone with a fair amount of intelligence would know that this is something that needs to be done sooner or later. <\/p>\n<p>Well, that doesn&#8217;t seem to be the case &#8211; not only do we have the expected uproar from the people at the end of the proverbial broomstick &#8211; but we also have all these activists and groups (political and social) coming out of the woodwork. And they are mounting an offensive against&#8230; well, I would have to say the government.<\/p>\n<p>The fact that this is even an issue is annoying.  <\/p>\n<p>To me, it&#8217;s ridiculously simple. Unfortunate, to be sure &#8211; but simple nonetheless. <em>Regardless<\/em> of how you and I view them; whether or not they&#8217;re decent hardworking individuals, or opportunistic inconsiderate hoodlums; the fact is they, quite simply, are doing something <strong>illegal<\/strong> by staying where they&#8217;re not supposed to be staying. <em>Period. Full-stop. Fuck you.<\/em>  <\/p>\n<p>I get wanting to help the poor. I mean I will not say that I&#8217;m anywhere near a shining example of a community oriented individual, but I can understand our collective want to be decent human beings. And &#8220;decent human beings&#8221; are called to help those who are in need. I <em>get<\/em> that.  <\/p>\n<p>What I am irritated about is the fact that these sympathizers are arguing for the <strong>wrong<\/strong> &#8220;solution.&#8221; If sympathizers want to solve things, then by all means <strong>give them a place to stay.<\/strong> But arguing that they shouldn&#8217;t be kicked out because it <em>&#8220;impinges upon their rights and dignity&#8221;<\/em> &#8211; is complete and utter bullshit!<\/p>\n<p>What fucking rights and dignity are these guys talking about; the right that <em>law-breakers<\/em> should be allowed to <em>break the law!?<\/em> Am I the only one who sees how retarded that line of argument is!?<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m irritated that instead of say, finding a place to relocate them &#8211; which technically, is already more than what they deserve &#8211; since that&#8217;s practically being given a <strong>free lot<\/strong>. I understand that it can even barely pass as a &#8220;house&#8221;, but you know what, it&#8217;s <strong>fucking free.<\/strong> If you want <em>fair,<\/em> the simple question would be &#8220;do you have any legal claim to the place you&#8217;re staying in?&#8221; If not, then out you go, it shouldn&#8217;t be anyone else&#8217;s problem but your own.  <\/p>\n<p>God bless those, who out of the kindness of their hearts, would find the time and means help you &#8211; but even <em>that<\/em> is in <strong>no way<\/strong> something <em>anyone&#8217;s<\/em> <strong>entitled<\/strong> to.  <\/p>\n<p>And yet here are the sympathizers who seem to be just good at <strong>complaining.<\/strong> Sure calling them <em>professional squatters<\/em> may have been much &#8211; but that doesn&#8217;t miraculously give them a claim to the land they&#8217;re <em>illegally<\/em> staying in.&#8232;&#8232;It&#8217;s misplaced sympathy is what it is &#8211; and it&#8217;s mostly because these &#8220;sympathizers&#8221; feel that they&#8217;re &#8220;more humane&#8221; when they take such a stance. They aren&#8217;t really solving anything &#8211; and it&#8217;s getting fucking annoying.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Here&#8217;s how I see it. We <em>cannot<\/em> clean up our cities <em>while<\/em> acccomodating illegal settlers. That&#8217;s just a fact, and anyone who has some idealistic notion that we can do it slowly but surely, is missing a few marbles. Most of the illegal settlers (at least collectively speaking) <em>unfortunately<\/em> have totally different &#8220;hygienic standards&#8221; &#8211; and that alone makes &#8220;cleaning up&#8221; and &#8220;squatting&#8221; <strong>fundamentally<\/strong> incompatible.<\/p>\n<p>So these &#8220;sympathizers&#8221; really have a choice; either you continue to feel warm and fuzzy inside by your [ultimatley] shallow victories of &#8220;defending the poor&#8221; and essentially <em>prevent<\/em> actual progress.
